"Have To Go To Jail For Paths We Have Chosen": Arvind Kejriwal To Workers

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal Sunday said his party has gained popularity for its "work-centric politics" and asserted the party workers should be ready "to go to jail for the paths we have chosen for the public good".

Chairing the National Executive and 12th National Council meetings of the party, held virtually on Sunday, he said, "The Aam Aadmi Party has risen to the third place among 1,350 political parties in these 10 years." "If we were not successful and did not do anything good, then none of our party leaders would have gone to jail and today everyone would have been happy with their families," he said.

Mr Kejriwal's remarks assume significance since the Enforcement Directorate has asked him to appear before it on January 3 in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

The Delhi CM said that two major parties have ruled this country for 75 years and said "these people will not relinquish power so easily".

"I think we are facing a struggle, but there's no need for us to be saddened. Our five leaders who are in jail today are our heroes. We are very proud of all of them. I am continuously in touch with lawyers. It's a very good thing that even while in jail, all our leaders' spirits are still very high.

"On the day Manish Sisodia's bail was cancelled, he sent a message saying, 'It's okay, I'll stay in jail for as many days as needed. This entire case is fabricated, and my struggle will continue'," he added.

At the National Council meeting, Mr Kejriwal asserted that the AAP has given the country a viable alternative in electoral politics and has gained popularity for its "work-centric politics".

Addressing the party workers, he said, "If you give good education to children, you will have to go to jail. If you provide free treatment to the poor, you will have to go to jail. We will have to go to jail for the paths we have chosen for public good." He also praised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the remarkable progress in the state.

"We have shown what work can be done that other parties couldn't accomplish in 75 years. In the last two years, the work done by the AAP government in Punjab shows that if our government is in full power in a state, we can work very swiftly and do wonders," he asserted.

He further said that AAP has made a significant impact on national politics in 10 years. For the first time in the country, opposition parties have been compelled to discuss schools and hospitals, he opined.

"Now, these people have replaced manifesto with 'guarantee' term stolen from us. They have started talking about 'Modi's guarantee' and 'Congress's guarantee'. These people have given guarantees to the public, but none of them fulfilled them because their intentions are not right, whereas we are fulfilling all our guarantees," he added.

He also informed the AAP officials about the national council and executive meetings of the party in physical mode in Amritsar in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Explaining the hurdles faced by the Delhi government and the freedom enjoyed in full-fledged state Punjab, Mr Kejriwal said, "In Delhi, due to obstructions created by the LG and the Centre, we set up 550 Mohalla Clinics but in Punjab 662 Aam Aadmi Clinics (Mohalla Clinics) are operational now and by January 26, 2024, the number will reach 750 in just two years." He also asked the party workers to build and strengthen the organization across the country. Elections cannot be won without a strong organization in states, he said.

"The AAP is a part of the INDIA alliance in the Lok Sabha elections. We must contest well on the seats we get in seat sharing, and our entire effort will be to win all those seats. Volunteers of the party from states where the AAP isn't contesting Lok Sabha elections will come and help in the places where elections are being contested," he added.

After the Lok Sabha elections, the Haryana Assembly election is the most significant for the party, he said.

Indian-Origin Man Arrested For Theft, Break-Ins At Hindu Temples In Canada

A 41-year-old Indo-Canadian man has been arrested for multiple break-ins and thefts at Hindu temples in Canada's Durham Region and Greater Toronto Area, police said.

However, the offences do not appear to be hate crimes or motivated by hate, Durham Regional Police said in a press release on Thursday.

The police identified the man as Jagdish Pandher from Brampton city.

According to the press release, in the early hours of October 8, police responded to a break-and-enter at a Hindu temple in the area of Bayly Street and Krosno Boulevard in Pickering.

Pandher was seen on security surveillance breaking into the temple and taking a large quantity of cash from the donation boxes. He fled the area before police arrival, it said.

He was "seen on surveillance footage later that morning committing additional break-and-enters at Hindu temples in Pickering and Ajax," the release said.

Police say the suspect has been linked to numerous other break-and-enters at Hindu temples throughout the year.

"These break-and-enters occurred in Durham Region and around the Greater Toronto Area," they said.

Pandher has been charged with four counts of break-and-enter among other charges, the release said.

UP Man Asks For Wife's Phone, She Stabs Him In The Eye With Scissors

A woman allegedly stabbed her husband in the eye with a pair of scissors when he asked her for her mobile phone to listen to songs on a social media platform.

Giving information about the incident, Saviratna Gautam said Ankit has filed a complaint against his wife Priyanka regarding the incident. The police has registered a case against the accused and started investigation, an officer said.

The officer said that Ankit had asked Priyanka for her mobile phone to listen to songs on YouTube. She refused to give the mobile saying that he should listen to the songs on his mobile. There was an argument between the two on this matter, after which Priyanka allegedly stabbed Ankit in the eye.

Ankit's family has admitted him to a nearby community health centre. The station in-charge said that further action will be taken following investigations.

Vibrating Molecules in Lab Experiment Wipe Out 99% Of Cancer Cells

Scientists and researchers in the medical field have been investing significant efforts into developing a cure for the deadly disease of cancer, which results in millions of fatalities each year. A collaborative research team comprising experts from Rice University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Texas has made a groundbreaking discovery. They have identified a method to eliminate cancer cells by harnessing the unique property of certain molecules to exhibit intense vibrations when exposed to light stimulation.

As per a release, the researchers found that the atoms of a small dye molecule used for medical imaging can vibrate in unison, forming what is known as a plasmon, when stimulated by near-infrared light, causing the cell membrane of cancerous cells to rupture. According to the study published in Nature Chemistry, the method had a 99 percent efficiency against lab cultures of human melanoma cells, and half of the mice with melanoma tumors became cancer-free after treatment.

“It is a whole new generation of molecular machines that we call molecular jackhammers,” said Rice chemist James Tour, whose lab has previously used nanoscale compounds endowed with a light-activated paddlelike chain of atoms that spins continually in the same direction to drill through the outer membrane of infectious bacteria, cancer cells, and treatment-resistant fungi.

In contrast to nanoscale drills inspired by the molecular motors of Nobel laureate Bernard Feringa, molecular jackhammers utilize a completely novel and unprecedented mechanism of action.

“They are more than one million times faster in their mechanical motion than the former Feringa-type motors, and they can be activated with near-infrared light rather than visible light,” Mr Tour said.

Near-infrared light can penetrate far deeper into the body than visible light, accessing organs or bones without damaging tissue.

“Near-infrared light can go as deep as 10 centimeters into the human body as opposed to only half a centimeter, the depth of penetration for visible light, which we used to activate the nanodrills,” said Mr Tour, Rice's T T and W F Chao Professor of Chemistry and a professor of materials science and nanoengineering. "It is a huge advance."

Donald Trump's Photo With "Toe Pads" Sparks Buzz On Social Media

Former United States President Donald Trump was recently spotted using "toe pads", two black rectangular pads under his feet while speaking at Mar-a-Lago, as per a report in the Independent. As people try to figure out the purpose and meaning of this accessory, several speculations and jokes have emerged online.

A user on microblogging website X, shared a picture of Mr Trump's black shoes leaning on the pads and asked, "What is Trump standing on here? How often does he use these?" They added, "Are these toe pads to prevent Trump leaning forward in his videos?"

"Toe lifts to help him not have old man posture," said a user.

Another added, "Trump toe pads, DeSantis heels - does the Republican Party have a foot fetish?"

"Those are used to prevent him from falling forward as he has a really strange lean when he stands," commented a person.

Several users also shared pictures of the former President leaning forward at press conferences and stated that he is now using "toe pads" to prevent leaning too far. Others remarked that his forward lean may be a sign of a medical problem.

A post on X, which has amassed a lot of views and reactions from users regarding Mr Trump's health, mentioned that it could be a sign of "frontotemporal dementia." The user said, "That forward lean is an indicator of Frontotemporal Dementia. Some have thought he was in early stages when he ran in 2016. MAGA candidates relax: it progresses slowly."

Another person suggested the same diagnosis with photos of Mr Trump and a list of symptoms, including "poor judgment," "socially inappropriate behaviour," "loss of empathy" and "problems with balance."

Meanwhile, Donald Trump urged a federal appeals court to throw out the federal election subversion criminal case in Washington, DC, arguing that he is protected under presidential immunity, CNN reported. He wants the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a lower-court ruling rejecting his claims of immunity in special counsel Jack Smith's election subversion case.

The appeals panel is weighing the former President's request, which the Supreme Court on Friday refused to take up on an expedited basis, as Mr Smith requested.

As per the outlet, the filing reiterates what Mr Trump's lawyers have repeatedly asserted: that Trump was working in his official capacity as president to "ensure election integrity" when he allegedly undermined the 2020 election results and therefore has immunity and that his indictment is unconstitutional because presidents cannot be criminally prosecuted for "official acts" unless they are impeached and convicted by the Senate.

6-Year-Old Boy Who Was Travelling Alone Put On Wrong Spirit Airlines Flight

An unaccompanied 6-year-old boy flying for the first time to see his grandmother in Florida was put on the wrong Spirit Airlines flight, the New York Post reported. The child was supposed to fly from Philadelphia International Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers on Thursday. However, the boy was ''incorrectly boarded'' on a flight to Orlando, four hours away from his intended destination.

In an emailed statement to CNN, Spirit Airlines apologised to the family. "The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them," the airline said in a statement to CNN.

The statement did not address how the error came to take place, but a spokesperson said an internal investigation was underway.

The child's grandmother, Maria Ramos, shared her ordeal with Wink News and said that she started panicking when her grandson didn't get off the plane in Fort Myers.

''They told me, No, he's not on this flight. He missed his flight.' I said, 'No, he could not miss his flight because I have the check-in tag. I ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and I asked her, 'Where's my grandson? He was handed over to you at Philadelphia?' She said, 'No, I had no kids with me,'' Mrs Ramos said.

Later, the boy called her to report that he had landed safely. His baggage also successfully arrived in Fort Myers as planned. Mrs Ramos then went on a four-hour drive to pick up the six-year-old, sharing that the mishap was one of the most terrifying experiences of her life. Spirit Airlines offered to reimburse Mrs Ramos for the drive but she wants to know the reason behind the lapse.

"I want them to call me. Let me know how my grandson ended up in Orlando. How did that happen? Did they get him off the plane? After mom handed him the paperwork, the flight attendant wondered if she let him go by himself and he jumped in the wrong plane by himself?" Mrs Ramos said.

The airline said that the boy had been supervised the whole time.

''The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them," Spirit said.

''We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an international investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience,'' the statement added.

Drunk Tourists To Be Sent To Hotels, Not Jails: Himachal Chief Minister

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday urged tourists to follow rules and regulations, adding that police will not lock up drunk tourists; instead, they will take them to hotels.

He made the gesture towards them to promote tourism in the state, which is witnessing a large influx of visitors during the festive season of Christmas and New Year.

Due to the Winter Carnival, the state government has decided to keep hotels, restaurants, and dhabas open 24 hours a day for the convenience of tourists. Apart from this, the police have also been instructed not to harass the tourists.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the weeklong 'Winter Carnival' in Shimla to promote tourism in the state and said, "We want to promote tourism in the state. We have opened eating joints, Dhaba and restaurants that will function 24 hours a day, starting from December 20 to January 5. So that the tourists do not face any problems."

The Chief Minister further said, "The police will send drunken tourists back to hotels rather than jails. I urge all the tourists to follow rules and regulations."

The traditional folk dances are drawing the attention of the people here. While addressing the gathering here, the Chief Minister said that over 30,000 tourist vehicles entered the state on Monday.

"Over 30000 thousand tourist vehicles have entered the state today," he further said, adding that the tourists were taken special care of by the state government during this festive and new year's season in the state.

The Chief Minister said that the Carnival will be organised every year in Shimla. Many tourists are overwhelmed after witnessing the winter carnival.

"I have been coming to Shimla for a long time; there are a large number of people gathered here. I have never seen it this crowded here. We are enjoying the carnival and ambience here. It's nice to be here," said Ridhi, a tourist from Punjab.

"We are feeling good to be here; the traditional dances and folk in the winter carnival are fantastic, and we are enjoying them," said Manish Agarwal, another tourist.

Many folklore artists expressed their joy in performing at the winter carnival.

"It is very good to be here. We are performing here and the winter carnival is being organised here for the first time. The artists have come from different parts of the state and also from other states of the country. It is good to be a part of this carnival," said Rohit, a young traditional folk artist.

The artists are also pleased to get a platform to perform in front of tourists, both domestic and international.

"I think the winter carnival is a big initiative to give a platform to the artists here. It is a good initiative to showcase the traditional art of the region," said Joginder Singh Habbi, a folk artist.

"After Corona, the artists were not getting platforms, even though there were floods that had also hit the festivals and such performances. Now it's time for festivals and the New Year season. A large number of people have gathered here and it is good to be here," he added.

"They Go To Harvard...": Veep's Veiled Attack At Rahul Gandhi's US Speech

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Sunday said there was a need to "generate a climate" to nip in the bud anti-national narratives set afloat by design to malign institutions and high constitutional offices.

Addressing the convocation ceremony of Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, he expressed sadness that "one of our parliamentarians went to Harvard and said that India's democracy is in peril and in danger." The vice-president said India is the only country where power transfer is done by the ballot and there has never been any problem.

Once the vote has been cast on the machine and the result declared by the election commission, then there is universal acceptance of the decision but then "they go to Harvard and say this", Vice President Dhankhar said.

"We have to generate a climate that anti-national narratives set afloat by designs, by a strategy to malign institutions, high constitutional offices, they must be nipped in the bud," the Vice President said.

"Let me tell you boys and girls that India is the only country in the world that has constitutionally structured democracy at the village level, at the panchayat level, at the district level, at the state level and the Central level," Vice President Dhankhar said.

The vice-president drew a comparison between India of the past and that of the present to say, "Today's India is not in anyone's grip. India has its own thinking in foreign affairs. Our voice is being heard. Our passport has that respect that we had never imagined. We are in a position to take tough steps."

"But people must keep in mind the teachings of Gautam Buddha also," he stressed, adding that India is the only country which has not tried to expand outside its territory and instead tolerated invasion.

Vice President Dhankhar said that India's prime minister has given a message to the world that this is not an era of expansion and not an era of war. "Issues must be decided by diplomacy and dialogue," he said.

The vice president told the gathering that a handful of people want to undermine India's growth and ethos and the youth should not stay silent on such issues.

"Silence will ever resonate in your ears. Therefore, use your mind, use your discretion, be judgmental about it and then take the right course," he said, adding, "We have unbreakable faith in Indianness. We will always keep the interest of the nation above everything else. We are proud citizens of Bharat."

Vice President Dhankhar heaped lavish praise on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the transformation of Uttar Pradesh in terms of investments, and law and order. He said Uttar Pradesh has been catapulted to the status of a "role model of role models".

"Desh ki baat to chhodiye duniya mein koi baat hoti hai role model ki to maan-neey mukhymantri ji Ko yad Kiya jata hai (Let alone the country, across the world whenever role models are discussed, the chief minister's name is mentioned," the vice president remarked.

He noted that Uttar Pradesh has also made its mark in getting investments.

"It has become a hot favourite destination for investments even in the premium category, the common investors were already coming here," Vice President Dhankhar said, with CM Adityanath, state ministers Nand Gopal Gupta, Brijesh Singh, and Gautam Buddha University functionaries in attendance.

Recalling his stint as the governor of West Bengal before he became the vice president, Vice President Dhankhar said he was chancellor of three dozen universities in that state. "I know what can happen with chancellors at some places while I also had the good fortune of serving at some like Panjab University".

"But I can say that this convocation is unique because it has dimensions like growth, confidence and civilisational ethos where there have been talks of keeping our cultural heritage intact and staying physically fit.

"The honourable chief minister has stolen a part of my heart, and part of my address also," Vice President Dhankhar said in a light note of praise for Yogi Adityanath.

Vice President Dhankhar said he thought a "politician" (Adityanath) would be addressing the convocation ceremony but a "spiritual leader, academician, statesman and far-thinking person" spoke to the students.

At the convocation ceremony, Yogi Adityanath said religion is not a method of worship, but a coordinated form of morality, moral values and duty. He invoked the teachings of Gautam Buddha, saying his life is not only inspirational but also shows a new path to the country and the world.

Box Office Report: Ranbir Kapoor's Animal Is Still Going Strong

After the release of Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki and Prabhas' Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire, the box office numbers of Animal are slowly declining. On day 22, the film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, collected Rs 1.15 crore (for all languages), as per a Sacnilk report. In total, the film depicting a complex father-son relationship and power-packed action has garnered Rs 532.44 crore domestically. In addition to Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna's chemistry, fans have equally showered love on the antagonist Bobby Deol, who played Abrar Haque, and Triptii Dimri, who was seen as Zoya.

Despite the significant success of Animal at the box office, a portion of the audience expressed dissatisfaction with a particular sequence in the film, questioning the mindset of Ranbir Kapoor's character, who had an extra-marital affair with Zoya. The director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has recently addressed the concerns raised about a specific scene where Ranvijay asks his wife Geetanjali (Rashmika) not to remarry if he does not return.

In response to the criticism, Sandeep Reddy Vanga explained to Galatta Plus, “In relationships, most of the time, you're done. Multiple partners could be a habit. Once you're with one person, and share of love with that one person, you are done for life. That could be the exchange between Geetanjali and Ranvijay. And knowing the psyche of Geetanjali, there are so many things in a relationship that are unsaid, so he must have felt that she can't make it with anybody else, so she'd better remain single.”

“He doesn't want his kids to be seeing Geetanjali with another father. It has nothing to do with a generalised feeling, it's purely personal,” Sandeep Reddy Vanga added.

In his review for NDTV, Saibal Chatterjee gave Animal 1.5 stars and said, “Animal is the kind of film that would have us believe that it is no big deal for a loving son to go berserk when it comes to tackling those who threaten the well-being of his dad and his two sisters. Since danger seems to lurk over the family at every corner, he has the licence to be as boorish as he wants to be.”

Animal was released on December 1. Ranbir Kapoor's film clashed with Vicky Kaushal's Sam Bahadur at the box office.

Toddlers, Teens Among 13 Unescorted Children On Plane Grounded In France

Thirteen unaccompanied minors are among the more than 300 Indian passengers of a Nicaragua-bound plane held in France over suspected human trafficking, authorities told AFP on Saturday.

The Airbus A340 has been held at Vatry airport, 150 kilometres (95 miles) east of Paris, since arriving from Dubai on Thursday following an anonymous tip-off that it was carrying potential victims of human trafficking.

The civilian protection unit of the Marne department said the plane was carrying 13 unaccompanied minors as well as accompanied minors, with their ages ranging from 21 months to 17 years.

The 303 passengers of the flight operated by Romanian company Legend Airlines were still in the airport's entrance hall on Saturday morning, an AFP reporter saw.

Tarpaulin covered the entrance hall's glass exterior and nearby administrative buildings, while police and gendarmes prevented access.

Two passengers were in custody on Friday as part of the investigation.

Liliana Bakayoko, a lawyer for the airline, said all crew members had been questioned and allowed to leave.

17 Worlds Outside Our Solar System May Have Life's "Essential Ingredient"

A recent NASA study looking for life beyond the solar system has discovered 17 exoplanets that could have oceans of liquid water beneath icy shells. The search for life usually involves finding exoplanets that exist within their host star's "habitable zone," a distance where temperatures allow liquid water to persist on their surfaces. However, it's possible for an exoplanet that's too distant and cold to still have an ocean underneath an ice crust if it has enough internal heating.

As per Space.com, these worlds, much like the icy moons of Jupiter, could therefore be promising places to search for chemical signs of life. Notably, Jupiter's Moon Europa and Saturn's Enceladus do not receive sufficient sunlight but still have liquid oceans beneath their icy crust.

''Water from these oceans could occasionally erupt through the ice crust as geysers. The science team calculated the amount of geyser activity on these exoplanets, the first time these estimates have been made. They identified two exoplanets sufficiently close where signs of these eruptions could be observed with telescopes,'' NASA said.

These icy worlds, including two that are near our solar system, might have conditions capable of supporting life.

"Our analyses predict that these 17 worlds may have ice-covered surfaces but receive enough internal heating from the decay of radioactive elements and tidal forces from their host stars to maintain internal oceans," Lynnae Quick of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said in a statement.

''Thanks to the amount of internal heating they experience, all planets in our study could also exhibit cryovolcanic eruptions in the form of geyser-like plumes," Mr Quick added.

According to NASA, these exoplanets are roughly Earth-sized but less dense and much colder, suggesting that their surfaces are covered in ice.

Researchers said geyser activity on two of the exoplanets Proxima Centauri b and LHS1140 b, could exceed Europa's by hundreds to thousands of times.

''Since our models predict that oceans could be found relatively close to the surfaces of Proxima Centauri b and LHS 1140 b, and their rate of geyser activity could exceed Europa's by hundreds to thousands of times, telescopes are most likely to detect geological activity on these planets," said Mr Quick.

Jacqueline Fernandez Asks Court To Drop Case Against Her By Probe Agency

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez has filed a petition in Delhi High Court, seeking that the case against her by the Enforcement Directorate be dismissed.  Ms Fernandez is accused in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. She was made an accused in the case in a supplementary chargesheet filed by the Central agency.

In the petition she has claimed that the money laundering allegations against her are false. Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who cheated Aditi Singh of Rs 200 crore, also trapped her, she has claimed.

Ms Fernandez has been accused of enjoying the proceeds of the alleged extortion of 200 crore from Aditi Singh, the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Singh.

In October 2019, Shivinder Singh was arrested in a case related to alleged misappropriation of funds at Religare Finvest Ltd.

Sukesh Chandrasekhar allegedly posing as a Central government official, persuaded Aditi Singh to pay him, promising to secure his bail.

He ran the scam from jail and convinced her by repeated phone calls to transfer the money.

"The petitioner is an innocent victim of Sukesh Chandrasekhar's maliciously targeted attack. There is absolutely no indication that she had any involvement whatsoever in aiding him to launder his purportedly ill-gotten wealth. Hence she cannot be prosecuted... under the prevention of money laundering Act," the petition read.

The petition claimed that one of the accused, Pinki Irani, had introduced Sukesh Chandrasekhar to Ms Fernandes as a fan who was connected to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, owned a production house and wanted to make a movie starring her.

Pinki Irani, the petition said, also compelled her to accept gifts from Chandrasekhar and tried to push her into a relationship with him. For this, she was offered Rs 12 crore.

At the time, Sukesh Chandrasekhar was in jail, but Pinki Irani has shown the actor photos of him in private jets and "roaming as a free man".

The petition contended that the Central agency had contended that she "might have known" he was in jail and still accepted gifts from him and so they have named her as an accused in the money laundering  case.

"Whether It Is An Officer's Son...": Minister On Woman Hit By Lover's Car

Reacting to the Thane incident, wherein a woman was allegedly run over by her boyfriend's car in the middle of a road, Maharashtra Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that the accused in the matter will have to face the whip of law even if he is the son of an officer or a big leader.

Speaking to ANI on the incident in Chandrapur, Mungantiwar said, "Whether it is an officer's son or some big leader's son, he will have to bear the whip of the law and Constitution. No matter who it is, if they have committed this crime, then they would be punished."

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also reacted to the case and said, "The incident not only brings goosebumps to a person but also exposes many people who are in authority. The accused, who has committed the heinous crime, is the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha and his father is a very senior bureaucrat in Thane district."

"The government talks about women's safety but it is actually the work that is done that really matters and that kind of work for women is not seen in Maharashtra," Chaturvedi added.

"This is a very unfortunate incident and I want to question the BJP about how the party could place responsibilities on such people who are so "Mahila Virodhi," asserted Chaturvedi.

"Does the Mahila Bachao-Mahila Badhao programme of the BJP give this message when there are incidents such as the women's protest or this recent Thane incident? she stated.

BJP leader Narayan Rane said, "Today the opposition is saying that law and order has deteriorated in Maharashtra. My question is that both Disha Salian and Sushant Singh were murdered during their time, was there law and order at that time?

"Today, when a woman is run over by a vehicle, then it is wrong to say that law and order are not good. They have no other topic. Our government is doing good work in Maharashtra. If a case is registered, he will be arrested. After an investigation, the police will arrest him," Rane added.

Congress leader Tariq Anwar also condemned the incident and said, "It is very sad that in our society, the way of thinking has still not changed, especially in cases like this, where love is involved. Many children commit suicide, murder, and other such crimes in matters like these. In my opinion, this is a social evil that needs to be cured."

A 26-year-old woman was severely injured when her boyfriend, who is the son of a senior bureaucrat, allegedly tried to run her over with his car in Maharashtra's Thane district.

The accused has been identified as Ashwajit Gaikwad.

Speaking to ANI on the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amar Singh Jadhav said, "The incident took place around 4 a.m. on Monday near a hotel on Ghodbunder Road, where the woman had gone to meet Ashwajit Gaikwad."

"An argument broke out between the victim, Ashwajeet Gaikwad and two other persons identified as Romil Patil and Sagar. The victim suffered injuries after the argument, and was admitted to the hospital, where the police recorded her statement. According to that, further action has been taken and a case has been registered against three accused under relevant sections," said the official.

"A case has been registered under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) (against accused Ashwajeet Gaikwad, Romil Patil and Sagar). Further investigation is being done on the basis of the victim's statement," informed the DCP.

The victim shared details and said, "Three bones in my right leg are broken. It has been operated on. From my left shoulder to my hips, I've had deep injuries. I cannot move my body. Four days ago, I went to file an FIR--the day all this happened. But no action was taken. Today, when I posted on social media, the police supported me."

The incident took place early on Monday morning near a hotel in Thane and police have registered a case against the accused, Ashwajit Gaikwad.

Sharing her information on the matter, victim Priya Singh's lawyer, Darshana Pawar, told ANI, "I met Priya in the morning. She is stable but the injuries are quite severe."

"As per the injuries, 307 (of IPC) should have been recorded, which has not been recorded. We have been requesting the investigating officers and police officers to take 307 and 356 on record. But, to date, they have not taken it. It's been more than four days. If they don't proceed, we will have to approach the High Court," stated the lawyer for the victim.

Further details on the matter are awaited.
