"Always Wanted..": Manoj Reveals Why He Rejected Chunnilal's Role In Devdas
Gangs Of Wasseypur star Manoj Bajpayee, in a recent interview with Sushant Sinha, revealed that he was offered Chunnilal's role in the film but he declined saying that he wanted to play Devdas. In an interview with Sushant Sinha, the Family Man was asked if he had ever rejected a movie that went on to become a big hit. He said, “Yes, I was offered Jackie Shroff's role in Devdas, but I immediately said no. I told Sanjay, ‘Sanjay, yaar, meri toh hamesha se ichchha thi Devdas karne ki (I always wanted to play Devdas). That film became a superhit, but I have regrets about letting it go. I'd wanted to play Devdas since my theatre days, ever since I'd watched Dilip Kumar's film, or read the book. But I never felt bad.”
Earlier in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Manoj had said that SRK was the one who took him to a discotheque for the first time. “He (SRK) was the only one who used to come in Maruti Van. In those days a Maruti Van, red colour, I still remember. He is the one who has taken me to a discotheque for the first time in Taj in Delhi. I mean we were very young, we had kind of just gotten out of our adolescent age and we met. He was part of Barry John's group for some time,” the actor said.
On work front, Manoj will be soon seen in Family Man season 3 series.
Manoj Bajpayee, who awaits the release of Bhaiyya Ji, in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, opened up about The Family Man Season 3, a possible crossover with Farzi Season 2 starring Shahid Kapoor and more. The actor, who plays Srikant Tiwari in the Raj and DK series, said, "Mujhe bahut mazaa aa raha hai. Abhi shooting chal rahi hai. Ek schedule khatam kiya hai humne. Raat ko dedh baje jaa ke soya hu main aur phir aapke iske liye aana tha. Main Family Man ki hi shooting kar raha tha" (I am enjoying a lot. The shooting is going on. We have wrapped up a schedule. I slept at 1:30 AM and then I had to come for the masterclass)."
The National Award winning actor added that the third season will be even "bigger and better" than the first two. "Phir wapas main shoot shuru karunga is month ke end me, Bhaiyya Ji ke release ke baad. To ye chalta rahega, November end tak humara schedule hai. Baaki tracks hai unki bhi shooting chal rahi hai. (I will resume shooting after the release of Bhaiyya Ji. Our schedule is till November). So this is going to be far bigger and better than the previous 2," he told Pinkvilla.

Mysterious Soviet Era Radio Transmitting For 40 Years Baffles Scientists
For 40 years, since the height of the Cold War, a mysterious radio signal has confounded scientists and radio operators across the world. According to an old article on the BBC, the location is near St Petersburg in Russia. It is thought to be the headquarters of a radio station, 'MDZhB', that no one has ever claimed to run, the outlet further said. But it has been broadcasting a dull, monotonous tone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anyone can listen in by tuning to the frequency 4625 kHz.
The BBC also said that a human voice sometimes reads out words like "dinghy" or "farming specialist", deepening the intrigue around the ghostly transmission.
Vice News said in a report that some enthusiasts entered the original location in Russia and allegedly found a log book which showed messages transmitted on UVB-76.
Initially, UVB-76 was believed to be a part of the Soviet Union's vast communications network, and after its dissolution in 1991, the transmission continued to operate from Russian territory. The feed has gained numerous followers online, where users affectionately call it "the Buzzer".
There are numerous theories around the radio transmission. The frequency is thought to belong to the Russian military, though they've never actually admitted this, said the BBC.
Some believe UVB-76 is a number station used for sending coded messages to spies and operatives. The cryptic voice messages fit the pattern of traditional number stations, which have been used for decades by various countries for espionage purposes.
Another theory suggests that UVB-76 might be related to ionospheric research, helping to study radio wave propagation through the Earth's atmosphere. This would explain the consistent signal and occasional variations.
The Buzzer operates at a relatively low frequency known as short wave, which allows it to travel great distance.
In recent years, UVB-76 has undergone several changes that have reignited interest and speculation. In 2010, a significant spike in activity included more frequent voice messages, leading to renewed interest from amateur radio enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists alike, as per Popular Mechanics.
Despite extensive monitoring and analysis by enthusiasts worldwide, the exact purpose of UVB-76 remains unconfirmed, perpetuating its status as one of the most compelling unsolved mysteries of the shortwave radio world.

Key Accused In Gujarat Game Zone Fire, Which Killed 28, Arrested In Rajasthan
The main accused in the case of a gaming zone fine in Gujarat's Rajkot, which killed 27, has been arrested, the police said on Monday.
The key accused Dhawal Thakkar was arrested from Abu Road in Rajasthan. The police received information that he had been hiding at his relative's house in Rajasthan.
A local court earlier today sent three men arrested in connection with the game zone fire to police custody for 14 days.
Special public prosecutor Tushar Gokani said that when asked about certain documents, the accused claimed they got burnt in the fire.
A first information report (FIR) was filed against six partners of the TRP game zone. Two partners in Raceway Enterprise, which operated the TRP game zone, Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, and the manager of the recreation centre, Nitin Jain, were arrested earlier today.
As per the FIR, the accused erected a 50-metre-wide and 60-metre-long structure that was as high as a three-storey building using metal sheet fabrication to create a game zone.
They did not have proper firefighting equipment and had not obtained no-objection certificate (NOC) from the local fire department.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said the government-appointed special investigation team (SIT) had seized all files related to the game zone for further investigation.
"The SIT has seized all relevant files from 2021 till 2024 in my presence from various departments such as the road and building department, police and Rajkot Municipal Corporation. We will not spare those found guilty of any wrongdoing," Mr Sanghavi told reporters in Gandhinagar.

Delhi, Haryana Vote Today In Penultimate Phase: 10 Points
- Voting will take place today in eight seats each in Bihar and Bengal, seven in Delhi, 10 in Haryana, four in Jharkhand, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and the final seat in Jammu & Kashmir -- Anantnag-Rajouri, where poling was moved from the third to the sixth phase.
- Odisha will pick representatives for 42 assembly constituencies and six Lok Sabha seats.
- By the end of today, election will be completed in 486 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. Polling will also be completed in Haryana, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
- The most riveting contest will be for national capital Delhi, where the BJP swept all seven seats in 2019. This time, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party is out to prise a few with its "Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se" campaign. AAP is contesting four seats in the national capital, its ally Congress three.
- The phase will be crucial for NDA, which has to keep its score intact to meet its "400-plus" target. In 2019, the BJP alone won 40 of the 58 constituencies going to polls today in the Hindi heartland and the east. Its NDA allies won five more seats.
- The parties of the Opposition INDIA bloc -- Trinamool Congress, National Conference and Samajwadi Party – had won five seats, the Congress none.
- Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party -- which contested the election in alliance with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party in 2019 and is now unaligned -- and Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal also won a few.
- The key candidates for this phase are the BJP's Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan from Sambalpur, Manohar Lal Khattar from Karnal, Sambit Patra from Puri, Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur, late Union minister Sushma Swaraj's daughter Bansuri Swaraj from the New Delhi constituency, Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi and industrialist Naveen Jindal from Kurukshetra.
- On the Opposition bloc are former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti from Anantnag, actor-turned politician Raj Babbar from Gurgaon, Deepender Singh Hooda from Rohtak, JNU students' union's former president Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi.
- The counting of votes will be held on June 4 after the last phase of the election ends on June 1.

FYI, Kurasah Anwer Sheikh is a Pakistani social media influencer who is known for her resemblance with Mahira Khan. Take a look at the post here:
Meanwhile, Mahira Khan recently hit the headlines after she reacted to crowd throwing an object at her on stage. Mahira shared a short video clip from the event and wrote a long note on Instagram. An excerpt from her post read, "What happened at the event was uncalled for. No one should think it's ok to throw something on stage, even if it's a flower wrapped up in a paper plane ( it's a figure of speech, for those taking it literally). It sets the wrong precedent. It is unacceptable. There are times I get scared, not just for myself, but for others who may be trapped in a mob like situation." Take a look:
Mahira Khan got married to businessman Salim Karim last year. Mahira Khan was earlier married to Ali Askari. They however parted ways in 2015. Mahira and Ali are parents to a 13-year-old son, Azlan. Plane Passenger Refuses To Stand So Seatmate Could Use Bathroom. See Post
When travelling on a plane, passengers should follow some basic etiquette and do their best to accommodate and not disturb or trouble anyone seated around them. Now, in a recent incident, a plane passenger claimed that his "passive-aggressive" seatmate refused to get up when he needed to get to the bathroom, and even complained that he was invading her "personal space". In a Reddit post shared to the popular "Am I The A**hole?" subreddit, the passenger detailed the inflight incident, which took place on a "long flight" where even "the comfiest seats feel like torture racks".
"I'm a big dude. Not yet book 2 seats level, but enough for plane seats to be absolute hell. Booked a window seat, figured the extra space would help," the passenger shared. He said the woman sitting in the middle seat initially seemed a "nice person". However, things got "tricky" after the passenger had to use the lavatory, he wrote. "Nature called a couple of times during the flight, and let's just say squeezing by in that cramped space is an exercise in contortionism at the best of times," the flyer lamented. "The woman in the middle seat politely refused to get up whenever I needed to use the restroom," he wrote.
Left with no other choice, the passenger said he was forced to squeeze by his seatmate every time he needed to go to the bathroom, which left him in an awkward predicament. "I get it. Nobody wants some sweaty dude brushing past them. I tried my best to minimize contact, literally sucked in my gut and held my breath like I was underwater. But even with all the contorting, there was some unavoidable brushing past," he wrote.

"At the end of the flight, the woman makes a passive-aggressive comment about "personal space" and how uncomfortable I made her feel throughout the flight," the flyer recounted. "Honestly, I felt terrible. Didn't mean to make her feel that way, but what else was I supposed to do? Hold it for 8 hours?" he spluttered. Ask her to physically get up? (Since she repeatedly didn't get up and indicated I should squeeze by, I had no reason to think she was too bothered by it)," he wrote.
The flyer asked the Reddit community if he was wrong to make her uncomfortable. Fortunately, the users sympathised with the man's inflight plight.
"What sort of idiot refuses to get up so someone can go to the bathroom?" wrote one user. "You're nicer than me, my response would have been: 'Ma'am you refused to get up, so my only options were to either encroach on your personal space or pee on you. I'm sorry you feel I chose the wrong option," said another.
"Who the hell doesn't get up to let the window person in and out? Even if you are a slender been pole there's not enough space to get out to the aisle without rubbing against someone," commented a third.

Arvind Kejriwal Aide Sent To 5-Day Police Custody In Swati Maliwal Case
In a late-night hearing on Saturday, a Delhi court has sent Bibhav Kumar, the personal assistant to Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, to police custody for five days.
Mr Kumar was arrested earlier in the day for allegedly assaulting AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at the chief minister's residence on Monday. Ms Maliwal had alleged Mr Kumar had kicked her in the chest, stomach and pelvic area and had brutally "dragged her and pulled her shirt up".
The Delhi Police, which presented Mr Kumar before the Tis Hazari court and sought his custody for seven days, said the Rajya Sabha MP was badly beaten, the buttons of her top were open and that they have got some CCTV footage from the chief minister's residence.
The police said they asked for the phone password of Mr Kumar, who had been working with the chief minister since 2015, but it was not given to them. Alleging that the official had destroyed evidence, they said the cellphone was formatted in Mumbai and he had claimed he had done so because it had hung.
Laying out the reasons for seeking his custody, the police said he would be taken to Mumbai and an expert would also be needed to unlock the phone, which is not possible without his presence. Custodial interrogation is also required to find out the reasons for assaulting the MP, they argued.
'Why The Delay?'
Bibhav Kumar's lawyer, Rajiv Mohan, pointed out that the alleged incident took place on Monday and the first information report was lodged on Thursday. No reason was given for the delay, he stressed.
Speaking about the day's events, Mr Mohan said Ms Maliwal had gone not to the chief minister's office but to his residence without anybody asking her to do so. The time at which she went is also not the official time to meet anyone, he said.
"You (Ms Maliwal) are saying that you used to go there like this, but there is no record of it. What was her purpose for going to the chief minister's residence that day? It is not clear," Mr Mohan told the court.
Referring to Mr Kejriwal being on interim bail in the liquor scam case till June 2, the lawyer said the chief minister is busy since it is election time and has been given a limited number of days by the Supreme Court.
He said Ms Maliwal went and sat on a sofa in the drawing room and had the option of going back if she could not meet the chief minister.
"A video of her coming out of the chief minister's residence is being circulated in the media, in which she is wearing a kurti and not a shirt. Talk of her buttons being open is not correct and neither is talk of her head banging against the central table," Mr Mohan said.
Accusing the Delhi Police of distorting the facts, Mr Mohan asked why the AAP leader had not filed an FIR when she had called a police helpline, 112, from the residence itself. He said she must have got a response in the posh area but did not ask for any medical help.
The lawyer said that Ms Maliwal met the Station House Officer of the Civil Lines Police Station and asked why the officer had not made a medical sheet if there was a grievous injury. He also questioned why she didn't register a complaint at the police station.
'Entered Without Permission'
"You entered there (the chief minister's residence) without permission, this is a crime. The section officer of the security staff had given a report in this regard on the same day," he said.
The lawyer added that the Supreme Court has ruled that no one can be pressured to share their phone's password and also informed the court that there was no CCTV camera in the drawing room.
Earlier in the day, the Tis Hazari court had rejected Mr Kumar's anticipatory bail stating that it was infructuous since had already been arrested.
On this, Advocate Shadan Farasat said Mr Kumar was arrested when the anticipatory bail petition was being heard so that it became ineffective. He said the official was not told the grounds for his arrest either.
Earlier Accusation
Responding to these arguments, the lawyer appearing for the police addressed the issue of the delay in filing an FIR and said Ms Maliwal was disturbed that an old acquaintance of hers had assaulted her. On the bail issue, the lawyer said there is no judgment that stops the police from effecting an arrest when an anticipatory bail hearing is on.
Referring to the video brought up by the defence, the lawyer said it was given to the media and not to the police and pointed out that Mr Kumar had earlier been accused of threatening a government official in Noida as well.

Amit Shah vs Priyanka Gandhi On 'Who Did What' In Rae Bareli
"Ganga bridge, rail coach factory, AIIMS, NIFT... eight flyovers, modification of railway station" - Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today read out a long list of projects completed by the Congress in her family bastion Rae Bareli, countering Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah's allegations that Gandhis ignored the constituency.
"I want to ask the Home Minister that what has the BJP done for Rae Bareli," was Ms Gandhi's poser right before she listed the projects, barely pausing to breathe.
"Congress gave Ganga bridge, a rail coach factory, AIIMS, NIFT, FDDI, a 4-lane from Lucknow to Raebareli, ring road, five National Highways, we opened a motor driving school, they closed it, we opened spice park, they closed it, eight flyovers, help through MPLADS during Covid pandemic, railway washing line, modification of railway stations, 10 railway underpass, road construction using central funds from Raebareli to Dalmau among others. What did they do for Raebareli," the Congress leader said.

Priyanka Gandhi's rebuttal was to five questions put to her by Mr Shah: "How many times in the past five years has Sonia Gandhi visited Raebareli? If she could not come, how many times did Rahul or Priyanka visit their family here?"
"The NTPC boiler burst and many people died but no one from the Gandhi family came here. There was a train accident in Bachhrawan but none of them came. People died when a boat capsized and then women were electrocuted. Five girls also died by drowning -- where were the Gandhis during these incidents? Dinesh Pratap Singh (BJP candidate) visited all the affected families," he charged.
The Home Minister Attacked former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, claiming she had spent 70 per cent of her MP fund on the vote bank.
The Congress and BJP have been crossing swords to wrest the prestige seats of Amethi and Rae Bareli.
Rahul Gandhi is Congress' candidate from Rae Bareli the seat held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the last two decades. The 77-year-old Mrs Gandhi moved to Rajya Sabha in February citing "health and increasing age". While announcing her Lok Sabha-to-Rajya Sabha shift, she called on the people of Rae Bareli, a Congress stronghold previously held by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her husband Feroze Gandhi before her, to "be with my family".
Rahul Gandhi represented Amethi from 2004 until 2019 when he was defeated by Union Minister Smriti Irani. He is a sitting MP in Kerala's Wayanad, where he is seeking a fresh term alongside Rae Bareli. Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, has been fielded from the Amethi seat.
Rae Bareli will vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.

CCTV For Public, Not Cops: Bengal Governor After Sex Harassment Allegation
Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, in the backdrop of sexual harassment allegations against him, has declared that he would allow the public to see the video footage of the concerned day "but not Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or her police".
The Raj Bhavan handle today posted a statement titled "Sach ke Saamne Programme" that said the Governor has launched the programme to counter "mischievous and fabricated allegations by the police" that the Raj Bhavan is not sparing the footage.
The Governor has now decided that the footage will be placed in public domain and will be shown to the first 100 people who wish to see it. They will be given access to the footage at the Raj Bhavan. The people will be picked from among those who apply to see it on mail or through phone call, the statement added.
On May 2, a woman claiming to be a temporary staff member attached to the Peace Room in the Raj Bhavan, had approached the police post inside the Governor's House and accused Mr Bose of molesting her. In a statement, Mr Bose's office called it an "engineered narrative".
"If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God Bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal," the statement added.
The Raj Bhavan staff was told to ignore police queries, entry was refused to the police and the state finance minister and the police were not provided with CCTV footage of the day in question.
In today's statement, the Raj Bhavan said the matter is under "illegal and unconstitutional investigation of the police". Article 361 of the Constitution has granted to immunity to Governors and the President from criminal proceedings during their term in office.
Amid the general election, the matter has acquired political overtones with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hitting out at the Governor and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.

"They Took Some Unilateral Measures...": S Jaishankar On New Nepal Note
Contesting Nepal's decision to introduce a new Rs 100 currency note featuring disputed Indian territories, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that New Delhi's position is very clear adding that Kathmandu unilaterally took some measures on their side.
He also said that while both countries were having talks on boundary matters, by doing something unilaterally, Nepal is not going to change the on-ground reality.
"I saw that report. I have not looked at it in detail, but I think our position is very clear. With Nepal, we were having discussions about our boundary matters through an established platform. And then in the middle of that, they unilaterally took some measures on their side. But by doing something on their side, they are not going to change the situation between us or the reality on the ground," said S Jaishankar while interacting with professionals in Bhubaneswar on "Why Bharat Matters."
A cabinet meeting on Friday decided to incorporate a new political map of Nepal on 100 rupee banknotes, covering the controversial territories of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani as part of its territory.
Earlier in May 2020, Nepal's updated map prepared incorporating the missing territories was submitted to the Ministry of Land Management by the Department of Survey which claims to have taken accurate scale, projection and coordinate system.
Tension had mounted between New Delhi and Kathmandu after the issuance of a political map by Nepal in mid-May 2020, including the Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura, which India earlier had included in its November 2019 map.
The earlier map issued in 2032 BS left Gunji, Nabhi and Kuri villages, which have now been included in the recently revised map, adding 335 square kilometres of land.
Diplomatic ties between the nations worsened after the inauguration of a road linking Kailash Mansarovar via Lipulekh on May 8, 2020, after which Nepal handed over a diplomatic note to India objecting to the move.
Prior to the handover of the diplomatic note, Nepal also had strongly objected to India's unilateral move to construct the road. Following a strong objection from Nepal, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said the road going through Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district "lies completely within the territory of India."

Watch: Dhoni Extends Sensational Record With Mammoth Six In Final Over
MS Dhoni was at his explosive best as he slammed a massive six in the final over of Chennai Super Kings' innings during the IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings on Wednesday. The veteran wicket-keeper batter came out to bat with around 2 overs to go and ended up scoring 14 off 11 deliveries. In the penultimate delivery of the final over, Dhoni read the low full-toss from Arshdeep Singh perfectly and heaved it for a mammoth six over sweeper cover. This was the 66th six for Dhoni in the final over of an IPL innings - a record that already belongs to him with Kieron Pollard a distant second with 33.
Ruturaj Gaikwad braved a sluggish Chepauk pitch and accurate Punjab Kings spinners to make a solid fifty but Chennai Super Kings could only post a modest 162 for seven in their IPL match on Wednesday. Once they were asked to bat first, skipper Gaikwad (62, 48b, 5x4, 2x6) and his opening partner Ajinkya Rahane (29, 24b) added 61 runs for the opening wicket but they consumed 49 balls for it. There were flashes of intent too in their alliance, though. Gaikwad played a fine upper cut off Arshdeep Singh for a boundary over the slips and Rahane creamed three fours in a row off Sam Curran, including a lovely cover drive. But they were too far and few in between to make a real impact.
The slide of CSK began once PBKS brought their spinners on immediately after the Power Play that yielded 55 for no loss.

Rahane tried to slog sweep Harpreet Brar but his skier ended in the hands of Rilee Rossouw in the deep.
But the left-arm spinner inflicted a bigger blow in the next delivery, trapping Shivam Dube, who was named in India's T20 World Cup squad, leg before for a first-ball duck.
Dube, promoted to No. 3 to counter spin, failed to connect an almighty heave off a fuller ball on the middle-stump by Brar, and he had to walk back despite seeking help from DRS.
In the next over, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar got rid of Ravindra Jadeja, who was deceived by a delivery that turned into him a whisker to beat his prod.

It was a totals shutdown for CSK in that phase between sixth and 10th over, losing three wickets for just 16 runs.
For a team that generally bosses the middle passage between the seventh and 15th over at a run-rate of 10.6, the CSK was a shadow of their marauding self, managing just 47 runs in that period against PBKS.
A big chunk of credit should go to two Punjab spinners -- Brar and Chahar -- who exploited a slow track to the hilt to return with combined figures of 33 in eight overs for four wickets.
They did not concede a single boundary in their spell.
It was always going to be tough for Chennai to claw back from that position.
Gaikwad did his best, using his timing and good array of shots against pacers Harshal Patel and Curran to reach his fifty in 44 balls.
The right-hander brought up his third fifty in a row in this IPL with a well-timed six off Curran over long-on and it was also the first six in CSK innings as they took 20 runs of that over.
CSK made 60 runs in the last five overs as Moeen Ali (15, 9b) helped Gaikwad to add 38 runs for the fifth wicket.
