"If There Are Unjustified Tariffs On Canada...": Trudeau Warns Trump

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday issued a warning regarding the potential imposition of tariffs by the United States, stating that "Canada will have an immediate and extremely strong response," CBC News reported.

"We will continue to do that work and do everything necessary to avoid these tariffs coming in, but like I said, if on Tuesday there are unjustified tariffs brought in on Canada, we will have an immediate and extremely strong response, as Canadians expect," Trudeau said.

The statement comes amid growing tensions over trade between the two countries. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticised the flow of illicit drugs into the US, allegedly coming from both Canada and Mexico.

As a result, Trump has decided to move forward with the imposition of tariffs on both countries, starting March 4. Additionally, reciprocal tariffs are set to continue with full force from April 2.

Further, Trudeau added that, "the first thing on tariffs is to emphasise that our government, and indeed all of Team Canada, premiers, business leaders, community leaders, are focused on one thing, making sure that come Tuesday and for the weeks that follow, there are no tariffs imposed on Canada," as per CBC News.

"The tariffs that the president speaks of for next week are centered around the fentanyl crisis that they're facing in the United States, but that we are also facing in Canada," he added.

Addressing concerns regarding fentanyl trafficking into the United States, he said "And for months now, I've been emphasising that less than one per cent of the fentanyl that arrives in the United States comes from Canada. But we know that even that one per cent, or less than one per cent, should be reduced, which is why we've invested USD 1.3 billion in strengthening our border capacities with Blackhawk helicopters, with drones, with 10,000 people patrolling our borders and keeping Canadians and Americans safe.

"And that Canada is not the source of problems for the United States," he added.

Meanwhile, on February 4, the US President paused tariffs on imports from both countries for 30 days, saying that he had secured new commitments from the two countries to improve border security. The pause was put in place after President Trump said he spoke to his counterparts from Mexico and Canada.

"Drugs are still pouring into our Country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels. A large percentage of these Drugs, much of them in the form of Fentanyl, are made in, and supplied by China. More than 100,000 people died last year due to the distribution of these dangerous and highly addictive POISONS," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Citing the smuggling of drugs across the border, Trump has vowed to stop or "seriously limit" such drugs, especially Fentanyl.

"Millions of people have died over the last two decades. The families of the victims are devastated and, in many instances, virtually destroyed. We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH 4 will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled," read Trump's post.

In addition, China will also be charged an additional 10 per cent tariff from March 4.

Man Shares How ChatGPT Got Him "Lots" Of Job Interviews, Post Goes Viral

Man claims ChatGPT got him more job interviews, internet demands to know his magic promptsA Reddit user has credited ChatGPT with boosting his job prospects, revealing that the AI-powered tool has significantly increased his chances of landing interviews. In a Reddit post, he explained that he feeds his CV and job descriptions into the chatbot, and allows it to tailor his applications to perfectly match the requirements of each role. This strategic approach has yielded impressive results, with the user receiving multiple interview requests, including for positions he initially deemed beyond his qualifications.

"I'm honestly getting an incredibly high response rate with interview requests, even for jobs I thought were way above my level. I just casually apply to jobs without putting too much focus, and I get many responses requesting interviews," he wrote.

Here is the post:

I keep getting lots of interview invitations while using ChatGPT and my CV
byu/davidmorson2 inRemoteJobHunters

He claimed that this method has led to recruiters describing his applications as "exceptional" and very "impressive". "The problem is that I'm terrible at interviews! I'm seriously the worst at interviews, I get very nervous and completely flustered," he added.

The post ignited a heated discussion among Reddit users regarding the ethics of leveraging ChatGPT in job applications. Several users expressed concerns that AI-generated applications could potentially misrepresent or embellish qualifications, raising questions about authenticity and fairness in the hiring process.

"Does Chat GPT lie and basically put the words from the ad into your resume? That's what happened when I tried it. I felt weird sending my resume like that," one user wrote. The user clarified that he doesn't lie on his resume and has received good reviews from the people he has worked with.

Another commented, "I do not think it's possible to apply for a job using chat GPT alone. We can search for jobs but I am not sure how effective it will be. Has anyone tried it?"

A third said, "Yeah, it's always weird how that works. You tell ChatGPT to tell people what they want to hear, and then they see how you are in real life and it doesn't match up. Totally weird."

Musk's Reaction To Woman Losing "Dream Job" In DOGE Cuts Sparks Discussion

A US woman who once praised the convenience of remote work has lost her job in the federal restructuring spearheaded by Elon Musk. After assuming office earlier this year, US President Donald Trump has focused on reducing government spending and downsizing the federal workforce. Spearheading this initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has enforced cost-cutting measures across various federal agencies. Amid this, a woman who goes by the name 'That Blonde Girl' on social media shared that she was terminated from her "dream job" due to the federal restructuring orders.

In a post shared on February 15, Saturday, she wrote: "I was terminated from my dream job with the Children's Bureau yesterday due to federal restructuring orders/DOGE. I am unemployed for the first time since I was 15 years old."

This post and her termination came months after she bragged about the convenience of a work-from-home job. "Didn't have any meetings today so I've been wearing my jammies all day but now I have a meeting in 30 minutes sooo putting on a hoodie. Eventually that WFH life gonna getcha," she posted in October 2024.

These two different posts have gone viral on social media and even caught the attention of Elon Musk. The billionaire, who has been vocal about bringing employees back to the office, reacted to the combined tweets with one emoji which reflects his stand regarding the work-from-home situation for employees.

Take a look below:

Mr Musk's reaction to the tweet quickly caught the attention of social media users. In the comments section, some questioned why the woman was being criticised, suggesting that remote working doesn't necessarily mean she was unproductive. Others argued that optics might seem unprofessional but did not indicate a lack of effort.

"I don't get it. Why is this bad?  Because she was wearing comfortable clothes while working from home with no meetings?" questioned one user. "I'm confused.. What is the problem here..Whether she wears pajamas or a suit - it shouldn't matter to anyone?" commented another.

"So, you are assuming, (or insinuating), that people are not capable of working in pyjamas?  She is referring to a meeting/online video call, not her full scope of work of which you have absolutely ZERO idea!" expressed a third user.

"I honestly don't get this one and I'm a Trump supporter.  If the role can be done from home and the required tasks are being completed on time and accurately, what's the big deal?  If people aren't needed just because their job is obselete or duplicate, that's a different story," wrote another.

CBI Files Forgery Case Against Ex-Coast Guard Chief K Natarajan

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case of fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy against former Indian Coast Guard Director General K Natarajan.

According to the First Information Report, on June 7, 2021, then Coast Guard IG Rakesh Pal had handed a complaint to the Defence Secretary.

In it, he alleged that scores of his 2019 Annual Confidential Report were deliberately reduced, due to which he could not get promoted to Additional Director General.

In its FIR, the CBI has alleged that the ACR of many officers and the Non-Initiation Certificate (NIC) of some officers were found missing.
The investigating agency says the NIC certificates, transfers and postings do not match the profile of the concerned officer.

The CBI also said that the NIC certificates were submitted three or four years after the reporting deadline, which is not as per rules. The agency is investigating the matter in detail.

What are ACR and NIC?

ACR (Annual Confidential Report): It is prepared to evaluate the efficiency and promotion of government officials.

NIC (Non-Initiation Certificate) certifies the ACR of an officer has not been written within a particular time limit.

Further investigation is going on in this matter and the CBI may soon question the concerned officials.

Marko Elez: DOGE Employee Who Was Re-Hired Despite Links To Racist Posts

Elon Musk has reinstated Marko Elez, a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer, who resigned after his racist and eugenicist social media posts came to light. Musk made the decision after conducting a public poll on X, where an overwhelming majority voted in favour of Elez's return.

The 25-year-old operated a now-deleted account, frequently posting racist and inflammatory content. In archived posts, he wrote, "Normalise Indian hare," "Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool," and claimed that "99 per cent of Indian H1Bs will be replaced by slightly smarter LLMs, they're going back, don't worry guys."

He also called for repealing the Civil Rights Act and expressed disdain for interracial marriage, writing, "You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity."

Elez also made controversial statements about the Middle East conflict, suggesting he would not care if "Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth."

Who is Marko Elez?

  1. Marko Elez is a 25-year-old engineer who previously worked for Elon Musk's companies, SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter).
  2. He graduated from Rutgers University in 2021 where he majored in Computer Science. He has experience in vehicle telemetry, starship software, satellite software, search AI, and machine learning. His work history suggests he specialises in distributed systems, recommendation engines, and AI.
  3. As a sophomore, he co-founded Unimetrics.io, a company aimed at helping high school students with their college applications, as per the Wall Street Journal.
  4. He resigned from Musk's DOGE after his racist posts resurfaced. At DOGE, he had direct access to the US Treasury Department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) systems, which control federal payments, including Social Security and tax returns. His admin privileges reportedly allowed him to modify critical code in the Payment Automation Manager and Secure Payment System, raising security concerns. A Wired report said his access was beyond the "read-only" level and that he has visited a Kansas City office housing BFS systems.
  5. A deleted social media account, @nullllptr, which previously used the username @marko_elez, posted racist content. The account also made derogatory remarks about Indian software engineers and posted extremist views on geopolitical conflicts. Elez currently operates another X account under the username @marko_elez, which has interacted with the same users and posted similar content as the deleted @nullllptr account.

"Humility Shines Through": Harsh Goenka On Jeet Adani, Diva Shah's Wedding

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani had said his son Jeet Adani's wedding would be conducted in a "simple and traditional way". Staying true to his word, the billionaire industrialist not only kept the wedding simple but also donated Rs 10,000 crore for social causes.

Conspicuous by their absence were politicians, business leaders, diplomats, bureaucrats, film stars, entertainers and other celebrities. Speculation that it would be a lavish and spectacular affair were put to rest.

At the Belvedere Club in Ahmedabad's Adani Shantigram township on Friday afternoon, Jeet Adani married Diva, daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah. According to family insiders, the wedding was a simple affair, with the usual religious rituals followed by a traditional Gujarati ceremony attended only by close relatives and friends.

Many top personalities praised how the private wedding was conducted and gave their best wishes to the couple.

"Gautam Adani's son Jeet got married today in a small, private wedding ceremony in Ahmedabad. The family's simplicity, values and humility shine through in this intimate celebration, setting an inspiring example of grace and grounded living," RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka said in a post on X.

Renowned journalist and Editor-in-chief of India TV, Rajat Sharma, who has known Mr Adani for several years, congratulated Jeet Adani and Diva Shah and praised Gautam Adani's initiative to donate Rs 10,000 crore for social causes. Mr Sharma said, "Gautam Adani, one of the richest people in the world, got his son married in a very simple and traditional way. The marriage was not lavish or spectacular. A few guests were invited. But on this occasion, Gautam Adani announced a donation of 10,000 crores."

Mr Sharma added that he has known Mr Adani for several years and he is known for giving pleasant surprises and said, "This amount (Rs 10,000 crore) will be used to build low-cost hospitals, medical colleges, affordable schools and global skill academies."

"The simplicity with which he got his son married is commendable. It is a good thing that he donated Rs 10,000 crores," he said.

The distinctive wedding gift from one of the richest men in the world will be channelled into various social causes. Sources close to him said Gautam Adani's cause list for his sizeable donation has been shaped by his social philosophy of 'Seva sadhana hai, seva prarthana hai, aur seva hi parmatma hai".

The larger part of his donation is expected to go into funding massive infrastructure initiatives in healthcare, education and skill development. These initiatives will focus on giving all sections of society access to a network of affordable world-class hospitals and medical colleges, affordable top-tier K-12 schools and advanced global skill academies with assured employability.

Gautam Adani posted on X (formerly Twitter):

Interestingly, in the tweet, he addressed his daughter-in-law as "daughter Diva".

Jeet Adani currently serves as Director at Adani Airports, managing six international airports and overseeing the building of a seventh in Navi Mumbai. Jeet is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Just two days before the wedding, Gautam Adani announced 'Mangal Seva', a programme to support newly married women with disabilities. To begin with, every year, 500 such women will be provided financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each.

Jeet Adani met 21 newly married 'divyang' women and their husbands to launch this initiative.

Meet Akash Bobba, Indian-Origin Engineer With Key Role In Elon Musk's DOGE

Billionaire Elon Musk-headed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has hired a team of six young engineers, some barely out of college, Wired reported on Monday. The team, aged between 19 and 24, includes Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran. Some are fresh out of college, while one is reportedly still a student. Among them is also Indian-origin Akash Bobba.

These engineers now hold key positions within agencies like the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the General Services Administration (GSA), with access to sensitive government data. The lack of experience in government affairs, combined with their roles overseeing crucial data, has sparked concerns among critics.

Who is Akash Bobba?

Akash Bobba attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he was part of the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MET) programme, designed for future tech industry leaders, according to his now-deleted LinkedIn account.

Before joining DOGE, the 22-year-old interned at Meta, Palantir, and the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, working in AI, data analytics, and financial modelling.

His genius in coding gained viral attention after a Berkeley classmate shared an anecdote about his problem-solving abilities. "During a project at Berkeley, I accidentally deleted our entire codebase 2 days before the deadline," the classmate wrote in an X post. "I panicked. Akash just stared at the screen, shrugged, and rewrote everything from scratch in one night - better than before. We submitted early and got first in the class," he wrote, adding, "I trust him with everything I own."

Mr Bobba is now listed as an "expert" at the OPM, reporting directly to Amanda Scales, DOGE's new chief of staff and a former talent acquisition lead at xAI and Uber.

Akash Bobba reportedly has an active GSA email and A-suite level clearance, giving him access to all physical spaces and IT systems at the GSA, according to Wired. Sources have raised concerns that these hires may have bypassed regular security clearance protocols.

DOGE, under Elon Musk's leadership, aims to streamline government operations through technology and automation.

Bill Gates Exclusive: I'm On The Autism Spectrum, It Never Goes Away

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has told NDTV that were he a young boy growing up in today's world, he would "probably be diagnosed on the autism spectrum". Mr Gates, who has never formally been diagnosed on the spectrum, said that as a child his parents sent him to a therapist who "over a year succeeded in convincing me (that) my mental style might be a positive thing".

Speaking to NDTV ahead of the release of his memoir, 'Source Code: My Beginnings', he said the fact some people's brains process information differently was not widely understood when he was a child. But such a diagnosis is helpful, if not important, today, since people on the spectrum can learn about the ways in which their brains work, and it also eliminates pejorative feelings against them.

Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, is a complex developmental disorder impacting one's ability to communicate and interact socially. It is characterised, in part, by repetitive behaviors and/or restricted interests, and occurs on a continuum of severity from mild challenges to difficulty with everyday life.

"(As a child) I knew there was something different (about me)," Mr Gates said, remembering an incident when he was in Class VI, "They (the school) asked us to write a report and I picked a small state (in the United States) called Delaware. I ended up turning in a 200-page report... the other kids were turning in five or 10-page reports. And I was kind of embarrassed."

"... teachers were always a little confounded... I was capable and yet distracted. At one stage, I had a teacher say, 'We should skip you a grade or two ahead', or another say, 'No, we should hold you back so you can mature'. And I, certainly my social skills, particularly with people my own age, other than a few nerdy boys like me, were very slow to develop."

Mr Gates told NDTV the ability to focus (intensely) on a task (individuals on the autism spectrum are known 'hyperfocus') gave him an advantage growing up, but pointed also to 'deficits', such as parents who were often confused by what they thought was eccentric, or 'abnormal' behaviour.

"I was very lucky... I was going to this private school. And so, I was able to shape that capability into a strength," he said, crediting this 'strength' with helping him eventually establish Microsoft.

It is, however, a "different world now", Mr Gates said, explaining that many children of today who are diagnosed on the spectrum don't have to hide the different ways in which they process information and the world around them.

Nevertheless, one cannot really 'grow out of autism', he said, explaining that he has, over the years, "... learned to socialise... hire people, and run a big company. I've had to learn a lot there."

"... as CEO of Microsoft I would take whole weeks off... and even now, as I set my schedule, if I've had a bunch of days with large groups of people, then I'll have a bunch of days by myself."

"I still rock a bit, which is kind of characteristic of (autism)... they call it 'self-stimulation'. So, you know, I have to catch myself because it can make people nervous. So, no... I don't think it ever goes away. (But) it'd be harder to diagnose now because I've learned, how to shape my behavior."
