Bengaluru Resident Calls Shifting To Bellandur "Biggest Mistake Ever"

A recent online post from a Bengaluru resident has drawn attention to how city life is changing for some long-time locals. The discussion began after the person shared personal thoughts about moving to a different part of the city and how it has affected their daily life and sense of connection.

A local resident who relocated to Bellandur, Bengaluru, five years ago has described this decision as "the biggest mistake ever." This homeowner, a Kannadiga who previously resided in the vicinity of Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, compared the modern tech hub with his former, more traditional neighbourhood, noting that this stark contrast leaves him devoid of any sense of "connection and belonging."

"Missing Simple Bengaluru life," the Reddit user wrote, adding: "From past 5 years I am living in bellandur area bought an apartment,, for someone who lived most of my life near Basavangudi this trade off is not worth it, only positive thing is travel time to office but when weekend arrives it feels like I am living in another state, that sense of belonging does not exist, frankly feel that buying an apartment here is the biggest mistake ever, never seen a single local festival celebration, it's too north indian for me."

Check Out The Post Here:

The user added, "As a Kannadiga, my suggestion is that don't move to such areas, better to live in good old Bengaluru areas and compromise on travel, don't bother shifting to this side, social life here sucks."

Social Media Reaction

This post has since sparked considerable discussion online, fueling a debate regarding the contrasts between different regions of Bengaluru and the profound impact that shifts in lifestyle can have on an individual's personal experience.

One user commented, "I can understand the conflict because travel time is important. Maybe you can spend your weekends back in Gandhi Bazaar, Bugal Rock, etc., which will at least feel like living."

Another user noted, "The same for me, I grew up in Malleshwaram and then Kengeri, now near Agara lake, I really miss speaking in kannada."

Arjun Tendulkar Follows Sachin's Footsteps, Leaves Pant Stunned - Video

Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar, left Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant in shock with a stunning revelation ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. During a pre-IPL 2026 training session, Pant found out that Arjun's bat weighs a whopping 1220 grams, significantly higher than his own willow. Arjun, who recently got married to entrepreneur Saaniya Chandhok, also left Pant impressed by revealing that he got down to practise the very next day after his wedding.

In a video shared by the official Lucknow Super Giants social media handles, Pant and Arjun can be seen having a conversation over the weight of their bats.

"1220 grams. I don't go lighter than 1200. Papa toh 1310-1315 (My father used 1310-1315 grams)," revealed Arjun to Pant.

When asked by Pant what the advantage of using a heavier bat is, Arjun's answer was simple: "Touch karo, ho jaata hai (All you need to do is just touch the ball)," he said.

Arjun also confirmed to Pant that he had been regularly practising with legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, and even on the day after his wedding.

"You're so enthu bhai (You're so enthusiastic)," quipped Pant.

"Agar kuch lage toh batana. Always open for you, kuch bhi ho (Let me know if you need anything. Always open for you, no matter what)," the star wicket-keeper batter told Arjun.

Arjun, 26, was traded to LSG ahead of IPL 2026, having spent a few seasons earlier with Mumbai Indians (MI), the franchise where Sachin Tendulkar used to play previously.

A left-arm seamer who also bats left-handed, Arjun is a bowling all-rounder. He played five matches for MI across the IPL 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Pant, meanwhile, is aiming to live up to his whopping Rs 27 crore pricetag in IPL 2026 after failing to lead LSG to the playoffs in 2025.

'Only Simple Flag-Hoisting': Pak Cancels Republic Day Parade Amid Oil Crisis

Pakistan has cancelled its military parade and ceremonial events that were scheduled for March 23, the country's Republic Day. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's office announced on Tuesday.

The decision has been taken in the backdrop of a crisis that has been triggered due to disruptions in oil supply because of the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran.

"In light of the ongoing Gulf oil crisis and the austerity measures announced by the government, it has been decided that the Pakistan Day parade scheduled for March 23 and all associated ceremonies will not be held," the statement read.

The statement mentioned that instead of an elaborate celebration, there will be a simple flag-hoisting ceremony.

"All ministries, divisions and departments are directed to observe the occasion with simplicity and dignity, so that despite limited ceremonies, the importance of the day and its true message remain preserved," the statement added.

In March, Sharif announced sweeping austerity measures to combat a severe fuel crisis and economic instability triggered by the US-Israel-Iran war. These emergency steps aim to drastically reduce government expenditure and conserve energy as global oil prices surge.

Since the war began more than two weeks ago, Iran has attacked several ships in the Gulf, in effect closing the strait, a conduit for a fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas, and driving up global energy prices.

Pakistan relies heavily on imported crude and refined fuels from Gulf producers, most of which come through the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan has raised the price of kerosene and Light Diesel Oil (LDO), local media reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, a report has highlighted that the sharp increase in fuel prices in Pakistan is turning painful during Ramadan, when household budgets are already under strain because the rise in the prices of basic necessities disproportionately affects middle-class families.

"The timing of the increase has, therefore, intensified public anger. Ramadan is traditionally a period when governments are expected to provide relief through targeted support for essential goods. Instead, households are confronting a cost shock that is quickly eroding purchasing power just as families begin planning for Eid expenses," the Dawn reported.

The day carries deep historical weight, commemorating the 1940 Lahore Resolution, the moment the All-India Muslim League officially called for an independent Muslim homeland, a demand that would ultimately culminate in the 1947 Partition of India.

The date holds a second layer of significance as well, as it was on March 23, 1956, nearly a decade after the nation came into existence, that Pakistan transitioned into a republic upon ratifying its inaugural constitution.

India Stars Face Big ICC Snub Despite T20 WC Triumph. Pakistan Star Rewarded

Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan, the USA's Shadley van Schalkwyk, and England's Will Jacks have been shortlisted for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month award for February, following their exceptional performances in the recently concluded Men's T20 World Cup. Farhan emerged as the leading run-scorer at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, delivering a sensational batting display for Pakistan throughout February. The right-handed opener broke the record for most runs in a single edition of the tournament, surpassing Virat Kohli's previous mark of 319 runs in 2014. Farhan amassed 383 runs at an impressive strike rate of 160.25, averaging 76.60.

The Pakistan batter also recorded two centuries during the tournament, becoming the first player to score multiple tons in a single Men's T20 World Cup edition, with his hundreds coming against Namibia and Sri Lanka. His prolific run-scoring was instrumental in helping Pakistan reach the Super 8s, though they narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth.

Shadley van Schalkwyk was a key performer with the ball for the USA during their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. The right-arm pacer claimed 13 wickets, ranking among the tournament's top wicket-takers.

Van Schalkwyk made an immediate impact, taking four wickets in the USA's opener against co-hosts India. He repeated his 4/25 figures in the group-stage clash against Pakistan at the Wankhede. Beyond his wicket-taking, he stood out for his disciplined bowling, conceding just 7.76 runs per over.

England's Will Jacks was a vital all-round contributor in their run to the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals. He scored 194 crucial runs at a strike rate of 173.21 and took 11 wickets at an economy of just over eight.

Jacks became the first player to win four Player of the Match awards in a single Men's T20 World Cup edition. His standout performances in the Super 8s, including matches against co-hosts Sri Lanka and New Zealand, helped England finish at the top of Group 2.

"Missiles, Drones Flying Over Us": LPG-Laden Indian Tanker Stuck Near Hormuz

An Indian ship with 34 crew members has been stranded for several days near the Strait of Hormuz as Iran, engaged in battle with the US and Israel, has blocked it. The tanker -- under the command of Captain Virendra Vishwakarma -- is loaded with enough LPG to fill 3.6 million domestic gas cylinders. With missiles and drones regularly flying past, the Captain and crew have been calling desperately for help.

The vessel had departed from the Mina Al Ahmadi port in Kuwait, bound for the Deendayal Kandla Port in Gujarat. The restrictions imposed on this maritime route since February 28 have brought the ship to a halt. It is now anchored in the Mina Saqr port area near the UAE, awaiting its turn to proceed.

Read: India-Bound LPG Tanker Crosses Strait Of Hormuz Amid Iran Blockade: Sources

In an emotional message sent from the ship, Captain Virendra has described the terrifying scene unfolding around them.

"Missiles and drones are flying directly over us. Sirens are blaring everywhere, and every moment feels as though something terrible could happen. We are simply waiting for the Indian Navy's protective escort so that we may return safely to our homeland," his message read.

Back in Mumbai's Dahisar, Vishwakarma's family is living under in fear. His wife, Nilpa Vishwakarma, said she has not slept for several nights. Their 10-year-old son, Vedansh, and 12-year-old daughter, Nirvi, are anxiously waiting for their father's return.

Due to the lack of internet connectivity, they have not been able to connect regularly -- a situation that has only heightened their anxiety.

The ship has only 60 days' supply of rations left.

The shipping company, GESCO, along with the concerned ministry, remains in constant contact with the Indian Navy.

The Captain and his family now have a singular demand: that the Indian Navy intervene as soon as possible and safely bring them home.

What Is US' New 'WISA' Proposal That Can Help Indian H-1B Visa Holders

US lawmaker Bonnie Watson Coleman has introduced a new bill in the US House of Representatives aimed at reversing strict rules imposed on the H-1B visa programme by US President Donald Trump.

The proposed law, called the Welcoming International Success Act (WISA), seeks to undo measures announced by the Trump administration in September 2025 that made it significantly harder and more expensive for employers to hire foreign professionals under the H-1B system.

The changes introduced last year reportedly created major barriers for companies, universities, hospitals and research institutions that rely on international talent.

What were the Trump administration's 2025 rules?

In September 2025, the Trump administration introduced major restrictions on the H-1B programme.

The measures included:

  • A $100,000 fee for employers submitting new H-1B visa petitions.
  • Stricter wage requirements for sponsored workers.
  • A wage-weighted lottery system that gives priority to higher-paying job offers.

The administration said that these changes would prevent companies from replacing American workers with lower-paid foreign labour and ensure that only highly skilled professionals are brought into the country.

Officials also described the H-1B programme as one of the most frequently abused parts of the US immigration system.

What the WISA proposes

The WISA aims to reverse the key provisions of Trump's September 2025 proclamation.

If passed, the bill would:

  • Cancel the immigration proclamation issued in September 2025.
  • Remove or reduce the $100,000 employer fee.
  • Ease strict wage requirements introduced under the new policy.
  • Make it easier for organisations to hire skilled foreign professionals.

According to the legislation, the proclamation titled “Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers” would effectively have no legal effect if the bill becomes law.

Watson Coleman said the current rules have created “significant barriers” for American employers and institutions that depend on skilled workers from around the world.

What is the H-1B visa programme?

The H-1B visa programme allows American employers to hire foreign professionals in specialised fields where skilled workers are limited or unavailable in the domestic workforce.

These jobs typically require advanced training or specialised knowledge and are commonly found in areas such as Information technology, Engineering, Healthcare, Scientific research, Education and academia.

Technology companies, universities, hospitals and research centres in the US depend heavily on this visa programme to fill specialised roles.

Indian professionals are the largest beneficiaries of the system. More than 70 per cent of H-1B visas are granted to Indian nationals, while applicants from China account for roughly 12 per cent.

Debate over the H-1B system

In January 2026, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a bill called the End H-1B Now Act, which proposes eliminating the visa category entirely from US immigration law.

Another proposal followed in February 2026 when Representative Greg Steube introduced the EXILE Act (Ending Exploitative Imported Labour Exemptions Act). His bill seeks to gradually phase out the H-1B programme by 2027.

How the WISA can help Indians

The proposed legislation is especially significant for Indian professionals because they dominate the H-1B system.

Recent estimates show:

  • About 7.3 lakh H-1B visa holders currently live in the US.
  • Around 5.5 lakh dependents, including spouses and children, live with them.
  • More than 70 per cent of these visa holders are from India.

Because Indians make up such a large share of the programme, any change to the rules could directly affect thousands of Indian engineers, IT professionals, researchers and healthcare workers.

To become law, the bill first needs to be passed by the US House of Representatives, after which it must also be approved by the Senate. If both chambers of Congress clear the legislation, it will then be sent to the President, who must sign it for the bill to officially become law. Until that happens, the current H-1B rules introduced in 2025 will continue to remain in effect.

Day After India's T20 World Cup Triumph, Ex-Coach Gary Kirsten Gets New Role

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday announced the appointment of former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten as the new head coach of the national men's team, effective from April 15. Kirsten, who enjoyed a distinguished international career representing South Africa, served as the head coach of the India men's national team from 2008 to 2011 and the head coach of the South Africa men's national team from 2011 to 2013. "The appointment of the new head coach is part of Sri Lanka Cricket's efforts to revamp the structure of the National High Performance Center," SLC said in a statement. During his tenures with the respective teams, he guided both teams to achieve significant heights in international cricket, including India winning the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2011 and South Africa becoming the number 1 ranked team in all formats of the game during the year 2013.

Kirsten's most recent engagement was with Cricket Namibia during the concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 as a ‘consultant.'

During his playing career, which spanned from 1993 to 2004, Kirsten scored a total of 14,087 runs across Test and One Day International (ODI) formats, including 21 Test centuries and 13 ODI centuries.

His appointment with Sri Lanka Cricket will be for a two-year term ending on April 14, 2028.

Among Kirsten's primary responsibilities will be guiding the Sri Lanka National Men's Team in its preparation and campaign for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be held in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

How Numbers Game Plays Out In Opposition's No-Trust Motion Against Speaker

The second phase of Parliament's Budget Session begins on Monday, and the first debate is expected to be on a no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla. The Opposition has filed a notice against the Speaker in the first phase of the budget session, which was signed by 118 members.

At the time, the Trinamool Congress MPs did not sign the notice. But now the party has said it will support the Opposition's no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

Read: Opposition Submits No-Trust Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

The rules require signatures of two MPs, a 14-day notice, and the support of 50 members in the House.

Three Congress MPs -- Mohammed Javed, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Mallu Ravi - had filed the notice for the no-confidence motion, which was supported by 118 opposition MPs.

The notice, accusing the Speaker of partisan behaviour, cited how the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders were not allowed to speak in the House and eight Opposition MPs were suspended for the entire Budget Session. Baseless allegations were made against the women MPs, the notice also alleged.

Once the notice is approved, a time for the debate will be fixed and the debate will take place in the Lok Sabha.

The rules dictate that the Speaker not sit on his chair during this debate and the Deputy Speaker conduct the proceedings. But in absence of a Deputy, the most senior MP in the panel of the Speaker will preside over the session. The candidate could be the BJP's Jagadambika Pal.

Read: No-Confidence Motion Against Om Birla: How A Lok Sabha Speaker Can Be Removed

This is not the first time a no-confidence motion has been brought against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. In 1954, the first no-confidence motion was brought against then Speaker GV Mavalankar.

At the time, JB Kripalani was leading the opposition, and the leader who brought the no-confidence motion was Vigneshwar Mishra. Kripalani had split from the Congress in 1951 and had formed the Krishak Mazdoor Praja Party, which he merged with the PJA Socialist Party. That no-confidence motion against Mavalankar was defeated by a vote of 489 to 364.

In 1966, Madhu Limaye brought a no-confidence motion against then Lok Sabha Speaker Hukum Singh. But it was rejected due to insufficient numbers.

In 1987, CPM leader Somnath Chatterjee brought a no-confidence motion against then Speaker Balram Jakhar. Thambi Durai was the Deputy Speaker at the time, and this motion was also defeated.

In December 2024, the Opposition had given a notice of no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. It was signed by 60 members of the Opposition, but Deputy Chairman Harivansh had rejected it.

Read: PM Modi Calls Om Birla An "Excellent Speaker" Ahead Of No-Confidence Motion

A simple majority of 272 is required to remove the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. But even with the support of the Trinamool Congress, the Opposition falls short.

In the current Lok Sabha, the government has the support of 293 MPs -- 240 from the BJP, 16 from the JDU, 12 from the TDP, and other NDA parties, providing a sufficient majority.

The Opposition has only 238 MPs, of whom 99 are from the Congress and the rest from the Samajwadi Party, DMK, Trinamool Congress, and others.

So if the no-confidence motion against the Speaker is brought to vote, the Opposition will likely be defeated. But the debate will be heated since the Opposition is unlikely to hold back.

Hungary Seizes Millions In Cash And Gold From Ukrainian Convoy, Seven Detained

A diplomatic dispute between Hungary and Ukraine has intensified after Hungarian authorities seized armoured bank vehicles carrying large quantities of cash and gold reportedly linked to a Ukrainian state bank.

Officials in Hungary said the convoy was transporting $40 million and 35 million Euro in cash along with about 9 kilograms of gold when it was stopped by customs authorities. Seven Ukrainian citizens travelling with the vehicles were detained.

Hungary's National Tax and Customs Administration said it had opened a money-laundering investigation into the shipment. Authorities also claimed that one of the detainees was a former general from Ukraine's intelligence services, raising further suspicions about the origins of the funds.

However, Ukraine rejected the accusations. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Budapest of "taking hostages and stealing money." Ukraine's state savings bank, Oschadbank, said the convoy was on a routine transfer of cash and gold between Austria and Ukraine, carried out by road due to restrictions on air travel during the war.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's political director, Balazs Orban, questioned the legitimacy of the shipment. In a post on social media, he said armoured vehicles carrying large quantities of cash and gold across Hungary was not typical of normal financial transactions.

The incident comes amid wider tensions between the two countries over energy supplies and Hungary's opposition to additional European Union support for Ukraine. Recently, Orban blocked new EU sanctions against Russia and vetoed a proposed 90 billion Euro loan package for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also sparked controversy after warning that one EU leader should not obstruct the financial package, remarks that were widely interpreted in Hungary as directed at Orban.

Hungarian officials later said the detained Ukrainians would be expelled from the country, though it remains unclear what will happen to the seized money and gold.

Tamil Nadu's RN Ravi Appointed Bengal Governor After CV Bose Resigns

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal after CV Ananda Bose resigned. The change in the poll-bound state is part of an overall reshuffle under which nine states and Union Territories have got new Governors and Lieutenant Governors. Tamil Nadu, where assembly elections are due as well, also got a new Governor. The state will be an additional charge for RV Arlekar, the Governor of Kerala.

Ravi's appointment was announced first by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who accused the Central government of violating federal principles by making the appointment without any consultation with the state government.

"Union Home Minister just informed me that Shri R.N. Ravi is being appointed as Governor of West Bengal. He never consulted with me as per the established convention in this regard. Such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India and strike at the very foundation of our federal structure. The Centre must respect the principles of cooperative federalism and refrain from taking unilateral decisions that erode democratic conventions and the dignity of States," Banerjee said in a post on X.

Read: Bengal Governor Quits, Mamata Banerjee Says Successor From Tamil Nadu

Like Bose in Bengal, Ravi has also made headlines over his differences with the state government led by DMK chief MK Stalin. The bitterness had reached such proportions that Chief Minister Stalin and his ministers had skipped the "At Home" reception hosted by the Governor to mark the Republic Day and attended a party event.

The confrontations with the DMK since his appointment in 2021, have often been public and have been on multiple fronts - constitutional, legal and political.

The most public of these occasions took place in the state assembly when, in a recurrent pattern, he had walked out, refusing to read the customary opening address prepared by the state government or deviated from it.

The last such occasion was in January, at the beginning of the winter session of the state assembly. Ravi had refused to read the speech saying it was full of "misleading claims" and included an insult to the National Anthem. Stalin had called his move "childish".

The Governor had also clashed with the government over appointment of Vice-Chancellors in state-run universities. As the chancellor, he had issued notifications in September 2023, constituting search committees to identify suitable candidates. He withdrew it after a suggestion of the Supreme Court to resolve their differences.

There have been tussles over other issues - including policy matters, premature release of prisoners and medical entrance exam NEET.

The biggest clash, though, was over his move to withhold assent to multiple bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly, which had pushed the state to go to the Supreme Court. The top court, in a landmark judgment last year, ruled the Governor's actions "illegal" and "arbitrary" and said the bills shall be "deemed to be cleared from the date it was re-presented to the Governor".

Read: Supreme Court's Landmark Verdict On Governor's Powers In Tamil Nadu Case

Ravi had also differed with the DMK on ideological issues - saying that a false narrative on racial divide of Dravidians and Aryans was created in the British period. "It was the British design to divide the country and they picked up collaborators during the freedom movement," he said, asserting that 19th Century British missionary and linguist Robert Caldwell was the father of the Dravidian theory.

Read: "British Design To...": Tamil Nadu Governor On Dravidian, Aryan Divide

Chief Minister Stalin had written to President Droupadi Murmu, saying the Governor should be advised against engaging in "political-ideological conflict" with the state government.
