Sri Lanka crisis: Sirisena suspends parliament, India keeps mum

While Wickremesinghe decried the coup as "unconstitutional" and illegal, Rajapaksa took to the streets to call upon the leader to step down "to respect the law and democracy." In 2015, the constitution was amended to rule out the President sacking the prime minister who could only be removed by Parliament. The Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya, will soon be expected to announce his decision.
