भारतीय टेनिस दिग्गज लिएंडर पेस ने कहा है कि वे टोक्यो ओलिंपिक के लिए जमकर मेहनत कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वे अपने रिकॉर्ड 8वें ओलिंपिक को यादगार बनाना चाहते हैं। बता दें कि पेस भारत के लिए 7 ओलिंपिक खेलने वाले एकमात्र खिलाड़ी हैं। 2021 में वे अपने 8वें ओलिंपिक में उतरेंगे। ये उनका आखिरी ओलिंपिक भी होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि वे भारत का नाम इतिहास में दर्ज कराना चाहते हैं।

2020 में लंबा ब्रेक मिला, शारीरिक और मानसिक तौर पर फिट

पेस ने मोटो-वोल्ट मोबिलिटी स्मार्ट ई-साइकिल्स के लॉन्चिंग इवेंट में कहा, 'किसी को भी नहीं पता था 2020 में कोरोना जैसा भी कुछ होने वाला है। इसने हम सभी को खुद के अंदर झांकने पर मजबूर किया है। हालांकि मैं इतना लंबा ब्रेक पाकर बेहद खुश हूं। मुझे कोई शक नहीं है कि आने वाले साल के लिए मैं खुद को शारीरिक और मानसिक तौर पर स्वस्थ महसूस कर रहा हूं।'

भारत का नाम इतिहास के पन्नों पर लिखा जाना महत्वपूर्ण

पेस ने कहा, 'मेरे लिए ये बेहद जरूरी है कि भारत का नाम इतिहास के पन्नों में लिखा जाए। इसलिए मैंने 30 साल तक खेलना जारी रखा। मेरे पास पहले ही 7 ओलिंपिक खेलने का रिकॉर्ड है और अगर मैं 8 ओलिंपिक खेलता हूं, तो मुझे विश्वास है कि भारत का नाम ओलिंपिक इतिहास में हमेशा के लिए अमर हो जाएगा कि किसी भारतीय ने 8 ओलिंपिक खेले हैं। मैं बस टोक्यो ओलिंपिक का इंतजार कर रहा हूं।'

ओलिंपिक में जीतने के लिए मेहनत कर रहा हूं

पेस ने कहा, 'मैं ओलिंपिक के लिए बहुत मेहनत कर रहा हूं। इसलिए नहीं कि सिर्फ इसमें हिस्सा ले सकूं, बल्कि ओलिंपिक में जीतने के लिए मेहनत कर रहा हूं। मैंने हमेशा जीतने के लिए खेला है। उम्र बस एक नंबर है। टेनिस में उम्र से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। इसके लिए पावर और स्पिन की जरूरत होती है। इस खेल के लिए यही जरूरी है।'

किसी भी जोड़ीदार के साथ ओलिंपिक में खेलने को तैयार

ये पूछे जाने पर कि ओलिंपिक में किस जोड़ीदार के साथ उतरना पसंद करेंगे? पेस ने कहा कि उन्हें जोड़ीदार से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। उन्होंने कहा, 'मुझे बस देश से मतलब है और अगर देश 8वें ओलिंपिक में उतरने का रिकॉर्ड बनाता है, तो उससे बड़ा कुछ नहीं है। मैं रोहन बोपन्ना, दीविज शरण और अंकिता रैना किसी के साथ भी खेलने को तैयार हूं। मैंने इससे पहले भी ओलिंपिक में महेश भूपति, रोहन और सानिया के साथ खेला है। मैंने जो भी किया अपने देश के लिए किया, अपने समुदाय के लिए किया है।'

100 ग्रैंड स्लैम खेलने का रिकॉर्ड भी बनाना चाहते हैं पेस

18 ग्रैंड स्लेम विजेता लिएंडर पेस ने कहा कि वे अपने 100वें ग्रैंड स्लैम खेलने का रिकॉर्ड भी बनाना चाहते हैं। वे अब तक 97 ग्रैंड स्लैम खेल चुके हैं। उन्होंने कहा, 'मैं तब तक आराम नहीं करूंगा, जब तक मैं वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड न बना दूं। डेविस कप, ओलिंपिक और 100 ग्रैंड स्लैम में खेलने का भी रिकॉर्ड बनाना चाहता हूं। मैं बस ग्रैंड स्लैम कैलेंडर आने का इंतजार कर रहा हूं। मैं चाहता हूं कि जल्दी से कोरोना की वैक्सीन आए ताकि हम अपने नॉर्मल लाइफ में वापस आ सकें।'

ओलिंपिक में टेनिस में मेडल जीतने वाले पेस एकमात्र खिलाड़ी

47 साल के पेस के नाम ओलिंपिक में टेनिस इवेंट में पहला और आखिरी मेडल जीतने का रिकॉर्ड है। उन्होंने 1996 अटलांटा ओलिंपिक में टेनिस में सिंगल्स इवेंट में भारत के लिए पहला मेडल जीता था। इसके बाद कोई भी भारतीय टेनिस खिलाड़ी ओलिंपिक में मेडल नहीं जीत सका। वहीं उनके नाम डेविस कप में डबल्स में सबसे ज्यादा डबल्स मैच जीतने का भी रिकॉर्ड है।

पहले ओलिंपिक में क्वार्टरफाइनल में पहुंचे थे पेस

लिएंडर ने अपना पहला ओलिंपिक बार्सिलोना में 1992 में खेला था। वे रमेश कृष्णन के साथ मेन्स डबल्स के क्वार्टरफाइनल में पहुंचे थे। लिएंडर ने पहला ग्रैंड स्लैम मैच 1993 में खेला था। वे विम्बल्डन में लॉरेंस टिलमैन के जोड़ीदार बने थे।

अटलांटा ओलिंपिक में आंद्रे अगासी से सेमीफाइनल में हारे थे

1996 के अटलांटा ओलिंपिक में लिएंडर टेनिस के सिंगल्स इवेंट में कोर्ट में उतरे थे। उन्होंने टूर्नामेंट में सबको चौंकाते हुए सेमीफाइनल में जगह बनाई थी। जहां उन्हें उस वक्त के वर्ल्ड नंबर-1 आंद्रे अगासी के हाथों हार का सामना करना पड़ा था। इसके बाद ब्रॉन्ज मेडल के मैच में लिएंडर ने ब्राजील के फर्नांडो मेलिगेनी को हराया था।

पेस ने कहा था टोक्यो ओलिंपिक उनका आखिरी होगा

पेस ने पिछले साल क्रिसमस के मौके पर 2020 टोक्यो ओलिंपिक के बाद संन्यास लेने की घोषणा की थी। हालांकि, कोरोना की वजह से इसे 1 साल आगे बढ़ा दिया गया।
