Pooran Breaks Internet With Match-Winning 55-Ball 137 In MLC Final

The inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket concluded on Sunday (Monday IST) with MI New York clinching the title against Seattle Orcas in Dallas. The brand MI continued to display its flawless cricketing skills as it added another trophy to its collection. Asked to bat first, the Orcas posted a good total of 183/9 in 20 overs with Quinton de Kock scoring 87 runs. However, the match turned upside down in the second innings as skipper Nicholas Pooran smashed a whopping total of 137 runs off just 55 balls and guided MI New York to victory by seven wickets.

Pooran's massive knock was laced with 13 sixes and 10 boundaries. The most memorable moment of the match came during the 16th over of MI's chase as the West Indies wicketkeeper thrashed Harmeet Singh for 24 runs. That over included a boundary and a stunning hat-trick of sixes.

With this total, the MI skipper also became the highest run-scorer of the MLC 2023 with 388 runs to his name. His knock of 137* was also the highest individual score by any batter in the tournament.

Notably, MI were one down for zero runs on the board during the chase. However, the skipper took the matter into his own hands and played a fearless innings to take his team to the inaugural title.

Talking about the match, no other batter, apart from de Kock, was able to go past the 30-run mark for Seattle Orcas. The bowling duo of Trent Boult and Rashid Khan broke the backbone of Orcas' batting line-up, with their respective three-wicket hauls. Apart from them, Steven Taylor and David Wiese took one wicket each.

Later, MI New York lost two wickets early as openers Steven Taylor and Shayan Jahangir departed for 0 and 10 runs respectively. However, it was Pooran who remained firm and played an extraordinary knock of 137 runs off 55 balls. Apart from him, Dewald Brevis and Tim David scored 20 and 10 runs respectively.

For Seattle Orcas, Imad Wasim and Wayne Parnell scalped one wicket each.

WWF Uses Twitter Bird Logo To Highlight Species Facing Extinction

Last week, Twitter replaced its iconic bird logo with the letter 'X',  marking the latest major shift since Elon Musk's takeover of the social media platform. Twitter, founded in 2006 and whose name is a play on the sound of birds chattering, has used avian branding since its early days.

Needless to say, Elon Musk's Twitter logo rebranding has become the talk of the town, and the subject of viral jokes and memes. Now, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), has used the rebranding of Twitter to talk about wildlife conservation.

The German chapter of the WWF created an impactful graphic that shows the evolution of the blue bird logos over the years. The post drives home the point that some animals are heading for extinction if we don't protect them.

Notably, McCann Germany, an advertising agency, collaborated with WWF to create the graphic and shared it on LinkedIn. When translated into English, the caption of the graphic reads, ''The whole world mourns the loss of the Twitter bird. Around 1 million real animal species are threatened with extinction. Today we are in the midst of the greatest extinction of species since the end of the dinosaur era. A quarter of mammal species, one in eight bird species, more than 30 percent of sharks and rays, and 40 percent of amphibian species are threatened. Help us save the animals. An initiative of WWF Germany & us!''

The text on the graphic, reads, “Protect our animal species before it's too late.”

See the picture here:

British writer Julia Hobsbawm posted this graphic on X and wrote, “Good work from a German ad agency which reads “protect the wildlife before it's too late”.

Reacting to the graphic, one user said, ''You could interpret the meaning a lot of ways. It could be covertly about free speech or it could actually be about protecting wildlife for all I know.''

Another commented, ''Join the wildlife rescue mission before these precious creatures go 'tweet-tweet' into extinction!''

A third said, ''I'd completely forgotten the bird logo was different in Twitter's early years, which in itself is a tribute to the timeless perfection of the final version. On top of everything else wrong with Elon Musk, he's a sheer cultural vandal.''

A fourth wrote, ''Another endangered species, now extinct.''

"Amit Shah Visited Manipur, Took Every Step To Restore Peace": Minister

Union Sports and Youth Affairs minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday took a jibe at the Opposition parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) delegation and asked why they are running away from discussion over the Manipur issue.

"We have been ready to discuss the Manipur issue since day one. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also invited a discussion over the same. My first question is why the Opposition is running away from this. Second, I want to ask the opposition to share the experiences of their two-day visit to Manipur and take part in the discussion," said Union Minister Thakur while speaking to reporters.

Notably, the 21-member delegation of the grand Opposition alliance, on Saturday, arrived on a two-day visit to the state, which has seen ethnic strife and violence since May 3.

The 21-member Opposition delegation from both Houses included Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh and Phulo Devi Netam of the Congress; Rajiv Ranjan Lalan Singh of the JDU; Sushmita Dev from Trinamool Congress; Kanimozhi from DMK; Sandosh Kumar of the CPI; AA Rahim from CPI(M), Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD; Javed Ali Khan of SP; Mahua Maji of JMM; PP Mohammed Faizal of NCP; Aneel Prasad Hegde of JDU, ET Mohammed Basheer of IUML; NK Premachandran of RSP; Sushil Gupta of AAP; Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT); D Ravikumar of VCK; Thiru Thol Thirumavalavan also of VCK; and Jayant Singh of the RLD

Furthermore, Mr Thakur said, "The Congress regime turned out to be a failure when thousands of people were killed in Manipur. At that time, neither Indira ji (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi), nor Rajiv ji (former PM Rajiv Gandhi) gave a statement on the same. How come they (the opposition) are seeking a statement from us?"

"The Union Home Minister had been in Manipur for four days. We took every possible step to restore peace in Manipur. The opposition should not spread chaos in order to remain in the limelight. It should take part in the discussion rather than do the politics", said Minister Thakur.

Speaking on Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary's remarks on Manipur violence, Mr Thakur said, "Please be enlightened towards the situation of Bengal also. You have to fight elections from Bengal. I want to ask him if 'all is well' in Bengal. They do not have the time to listen to the plight of women in Bengal".

Earlier, on Sunday, Mr Chowdhary said that the state and the central governments turned a deaf ear to the plight of the people in Manipur.

Moreover, Union Minister Thakur said, "The parliament is functioning. I want to request the opposition to come to the parliament, take part in the discussion, present their viewpoints and have the courage to hear the truth also".

Significantly, since the beginning of the monsoon session of the parliament on July 20, the opposition MPs of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance have been seeking an elaborate discussion and a statement from Prime Minister Modi over the Manipur issue. The government, on the other hand, says that it is ready to hold a discussion over the same.

The state has been witnessing an ethnic conflict since May 3 following the High Court's order asking the state government to consider including the Meitei community under the category of Scheduled Tribes (ST). the majority community sought the ST status in order to purchase lands in the hilly areas.

Mother Of Woman Stripped In Manipur Wants To See Bodies Of Son, Husband

The mother of one of the two women paraded naked by a mob in Manipur on May 4 urged the MPs of opposition coalition INDIA to help her see the bodies of her husband and son, who were also killed on that day.

A delegation of 21 MPs from the opposition bloc is on a two-day visit to the state, and meeting people affected by the violence.

When Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev and DMK MP Kanimozhi met the mother of one of the victims, she urged them to help her at least see the bodies of her son and husband.

She also told the two leaders the situation is such that Kukis and Meteis, the two warring communities, cannot live together anymore.

"Her daughter was raped, and her husband and son were killed by the mob in the presence of Manipur Police but till today, not a single police officer has been suspended," Ms Dev told PTI-Video.

"They have got a huge shock. They are saying that there was a mob of more than 1,000 people, and they have made a specific demand, which I will raise with the governor," she said.

The girl alleged that she was raped in front of the police, but nothing was done to help her, she added.

Ms Dev claimed that the girl is scared of the police now. "If a victim does not trust the police anymore then it is a constitutional crisis." Kanimozhi said the victim's father served in the Army and protected the nation, but could not protect his family.

"It is so sad to see a woman whose daughter was raped. She lost her husband and her son on the same day and there is no justice for them," she said.

The viral video of the May 4 incident renewed the national attention on Manipur, where violence broke out nearly three months ago, killing over 160 people since then, and injuring hundreds.

The violence erupted on May 3 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley, while tribals, which include Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 per cent and reside mainly in the hill districts.

Monsoon Fury Shifts To South India, Red Alert For Heavy Rain In 3 States

After wreaking havoc in several North Indian states, incessant rain has now also moved to the southern states and authorities have urged locals to stay indoors and take precautions.

Red alerts forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rain have been issued in several districts of Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala.

With heavy rain predicted today, Telangana has declared a holiday today for all schools and colleges.

Two girls were washed away in an overflowing stream in Mahabubnagar district in Telangana on Tuesday as heavy rain led to inundation of low-lying areas and disruption of road links at several places in the state. The two teenaged girls, who were crossing the stream, did not realise the current of water and got swept away, police said.

To prevent traffic jams, the Hyderabad police has urged IT companies to conduct a phase-wise logout of their employees.

In Karnataka, the weather department has asked people in coastal regions to avoid areas that are prone to waterlogging and asked them to stay away from vulnerable structures which might collapse due to incessant rains.

New York-Bound Flight From Europe Forced To Make Emergency Landing

A Delta Airlines flight from Milan to New York JFK was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff. According to a report by New York Post, the plane was pummeled by hail during "severe turbulence". The plan was diverted to Rome on Monday after it suffered damage to the nose and fuselage near the wings.

The flight sustained substantial damage to its right-hand wing, both engines, radome, and along the leading edges of the wings. The aircraft landed without further incident 65 minutes after departure. No onboard injuries were reported.

The photos show large holes in the nose cone and wing following the hailstorm.

According to ABC News, the flight had 215 passengers onboard, as well as three pilots and eight flight attendants.

One traveller told the media outlet that the plane was hit with turbulence that felt like a roller coaster ride just 15 minutes after takeoff.

We take off, it's a normal takeoff, we get into the air a few minutes later, we encounter severe turbulence and we all hear noise we've never heard before," Steven Coury said. "And that was hail pounding on the roof of the plane. One passenger looked out the window and saw the wing shaking violently like it was gonna break off. Look, I saw flashes of light like lightning hitting the plane. And the turbulence was like being on a roller coaster ride dropping significantly."

Mr Coury told the media outlet that the nose of the plane was punched out which may have damaged the navigation system.

He also mentioned that both engines were damaged as one had a hole in it and another appeared damaged.

In a statement, Delta Airlines said, "Delta flight 185 from Milan to New York-JFK diverted to Rome after experiencing an apparent weather-related maintenance issue shortly after departure. The flight landed safely in Rome where passengers deplaned normally and where maintenance personnel is conducting a thorough evaluation of the aircraft. Delta apologizes for the delay in our customers' journey. The safety of our customers and crew is Delta's top priority."

Rohit Sharma's Eye-Catching Tweet As Rain Washes Out 2nd Test

Rain played a spoilsport on Monday as the entire Day 5 of the second Test between India and West Indies got washed out. As a result, the second Test ended in a draw and the Rohit Sharma-led side clinched the two-match series 1-0. Team India had an upper hand over the hosts in the entire game as the Caribbean side needed 289 runs on Day 5 with eight wickets in hand. However, the weather prevailed over India's hopes as the day concluded without a single ball being bowled.

After the match ended, India skipper Rohit Sharma took to Twitter and expressed disappointment over the draw. "Mumbai ya Trinidad," wrote Rohit while comparing the weather of the host city to his hometown.

Eyeing a clean sweep after their victory inside three days in Dominica, India called the shots here too and set the hosts an imposing target of 365. But the match ended in a draw after the fifth and final day's play was washed out.

Having taken two wickets to leave the beleaguered West Indies trailing by 289 runs by the end of the fourth day's play, the Indians would have certainly fancied their chances of emerging victorious and grabbing a full 24 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Speaking to the host broadcasters after the match, Rohit said, "Every win is different. Playing in WI has its own challenge. Happy with the way things went. We gave it a good shot, unfortunately we couldn't get any play today. We actually went out with a positive intent yesterday. Rain had its final say. We were quite confident. You know how difficult it is batting last."

"We always wanted that kind of score where we wanted the opposition to go for it. There wasn't much on the surface. No play today, unfortunate for us," he added.

Video: Firefighting Plane's Wing Clips Tree, Crashes Seconds Later

A Greek water-bombing plane crashed Tuesday while battling a forest fire on the island of Evia as hundreds of firefighters struggled to beat back blazes still raging in Rhodes and Corfu amid a new wave of soaring temperatures.

The fire department said the Canadair aircraft crashed into a ravine close to where the fire started on Sunday. Footage on state TV ERT showed the plane clipping a tree before falling nose-first and exploding.

"A Greek Canadair plane, with at least two people on board, crashed near Platanisto," a village in Evia, spokesman Yannis Artopios said.

The plane was among at least three other aircraft and around a hundred firefighters in the fight against the flames on Evia.

The accident occurred as Greece battled wildfires on three major fronts, including the tourist islands of Rhodes and Corfu, with many of the country's regions listed at extreme risk of dangerous forest fires exacerbated by strong winds.

The very hot weather comes after a weekend of intense heat as thousands of locals and tourists fled forest fires on the Greek islands of Rhodes and Corfu, with the prime minister warning the heat-battered nation is "at war" with the flames.

Scientists from the World Weather Attribution group said Tuesday the heatwaves that have hit parts of Europe and North America this month would have been almost impossible without human-caused climate change.

"We have another difficult summer ahead of us," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the cabinet.

WWF Greece on Tuesday said 35,000 hectares (86,500 acres) of forest and other land had been scorched by fire in the country just in the past week.

In the capital Athens the heat is expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit), and hit up to 44C in central Greece, according to the national weather forecaster EMY.

Authorities evacuated nearly 2,500 people from the Greek island of Corfu on Monday, after tens of thousands of people had already fled blazes on the island of Rhodes, with many frightened tourists scrambling to get home on evacuation flights.

More than 260 firefighters were still battling flames for an eighth consecutive day on Rhodes, supported by nine planes and two helicopters.

A source at Rhodes airport operators Fraport on Tuesday said the situation had normalised, with traffic levels consistent with the height of the summer season on one of Greece's prime travel destinations.

The Greek transport ministry said over 2,100 people had flown home on emergency flights on Sunday and Monday.

Fires were also raging on Greece's second largest island of Evia, where Greek civil protection authorities issued an overnight evacuation order in one northern locality.

Mitsotakis said Greece's state apparatus faced a "major challenge" as the prolonged heatwave and successive wildfires had officials on a 24-hour alert footing for "several weeks."

The mercury hit 46.4C in Gythio, in the southern Peloponnese peninsula on Sunday, though failed to reach the hottest temperature nationally on record of 48C.

Mitsotakis has warned that the country faced "another three difficult days ahead" before high temperatures are forecast to ease from Thursday.

'Protect our home'

The severe heatwave in Greece has also been reflected across much of southern Europe and Northern Africa.

In Algeria at least 34 people have died as wildfires raged through residential areas, forcing mass evacuations.

In southeastern France officials Monday issued a fire warning at the highest level in the Bouches-du-Rhone region, warning that the weather conditions make the risk of flames "very high compared to normal summers".

In Albania's capital Tirana, temperatures surpassed 40C on Tuesday, spurring hospitals to open a string of emergency care centres to treat heat-related illnesses.

On average more than 100 patients a day have been flocking to each heat centre across the country, with ailments linked to the spike in temperatures including blood pressure issues, dizziness, and fainting, said Skender Brataj, who oversees the national centre for emergency medical care in Albania.

The exceptional temperatures in Greece have forced key tourist sites such as the Acropolis in Athens to close at the hottest times of the day.

Vassilis Kikilias, Greece's civil protection minister, said crews had battled over 500 fires around the country for 12 straight days.

The fires are particularly devastating on islands such as Rhodes and Corfu where the tourist season is in full swing and hotels are often full.

Volunteers had come to the aid of foreign tourists in the north of Rhodes where nearly 200 people are still camped out at a school after being evacuated from the fires on Saturday.

"I can't believe they are so nice, they gave so much in every way," said 69-year-old British tourist Christine Moody, who was spending her first vacation in Greece when the fires hit.

"I am very moved," she said.

In the village of Vati, in the southeast of the island, local mayor Vassilis Kalabodakis said the impact on the region was "tragic".

"The village has been ordered to evacuate but we can't abandon it," he said. "We are leading the fight to protect our home".

NASA Shares Pic Of Cosmic Necklace Located 15,000 Light Years Away

Space agency NASA routinely captures stunning images of our universe, leaving space lovers mesmerized. The Instagram handle of NASA is a treasure trove for those who love to watch educational videos and fascinating images showcasing Earth and space.

This time, NASA took to Instagram to share a stunning picture of the ''Necklace Nebula'', which was created by a pair of tightly orbiting Sun-like stars.

''Woven from the stardust of nebulae: A cosmic necklace,'' the picture was captioned.

See the image here:

Explaining how the Necklace Nebula was formed, NASA wrote, ''About 10,000 years ago, an aging star expanded to the point where it was immersed into its companion star. The pair of stars orbiting closely together produced the nebula creating bright knots of gas that resemble diamonds in a necklace.''

Located 15,000 light years away, the “Necklace Nebula” is also known as PN G054.203.4. NASA described the image as, ''At the center of the image, a green core surrounded by a ring of bright-shiny clumps of gas. A cloud of gas surrounds the ring. The background is dark and filled with small, medium, and larger stars. Small red clouds of gas are at the top left and bottom right of the image. ''

Since being posted, the picture has accumulated 7,99,929 likes and hundreds of comments. Internet users loved the image and expressed their delight in the comments section.

How can we be alone? What creatures do we see the past of the world and in which galaxy are they watching our past billions of years later? Where are the other creatures in this picture and on which planet do they live?''

Another commented, ''WOW. A gorgeous necklace it is.'' A third added, ''Woooooow So beautiful and captivating.'' A fourth wrote, ''That's so beautiful.''

Pak Army Chief Says Pakistanis Must Throw Out Beggar's Bowl

Pakistan's Army Chief Syed Asim Munir underlined the need to make the country self-reliant to end the dependency on foreign loans, which the cash-strapped nation recently secured with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Geo News reported.

While addressing the opening ceremony of Khanewal Model Agriculture Farm on Monday, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan said, "Pakistanis are a proud, zealous and talented nation. All Pakistanis must throw out the beggar's bowl."

Notably, Pakistan is set to receive another loan from China. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently said that Pakistan has received a rollover of an additional USD 600 million loan from its all-weather ally China to help shore up the country's foreign exchange reserves on the back of an IMF deal.

In July, the Pakistan government's debt swelled to USD 2.44 billion, including USD 2.07 billion in non-guaranteed debt owed to China, as per Geo News.

The army chief also said that Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with all blessings and no power in the world can stop the country's progress.

General Munir said a state is like a mother and the relationship between the people and the state is of love and respect.

He said security and the economy are interlinked and indispensable to each other.

COAS also stated that the Pakistan Army is proud to serve its nation, adding that the military drew its strength from the people and vice-versa.

General Munir promised that the military would not rest until Pakistan is steered out of the prevailing crisis.

Speaking about the model farm, the COAS asserted that the country will witness the agricultural revolution, reported Geo News.

He added that model farms will be established across the country in line with modern standards to benefit small farmers and spread the scope of green initiatives.

Watch: Nadal Has His Pick As Fan Asks To Choose Between Messi And Ronaldo

The two greats of football world -- Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo -- are close to the end of their respective careers but the debate among the fans about who is better than whom continues to take place. Such is the craze and fan-following of the two players that the discussions regarding them also takes place outside the football circuit. For example, take the recent incident in which a fan asked Spain's tennis ace Rafael Nadal to choose between the two football greats. Nadal, who himself is among the greats of tennis, came out with an honest verdict and followed it with a smart reply.

"Messi or Ronaldo" asked a fan to Nadal, who is currently on a vacation to Greece.

"Messi is better," said the tennis great and added, "but I am a Madrid fan!"

Nadal had recently extended wishes to Carlos Alcaraz after the 20-year-old produced a masterful comeback performance against seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to win the men's singles final match to clinch Wimbledon 2023 crown and his second Grand Slam title.

After Alcaraz lifted his maiden Wimbledon title, 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal took to Twitter to congratulate the 20-year-old sensation.

"Congratulations @carlosalcaraz. You have given us immense joy today and I am sure that our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, has also been cheering wherever he is, such as Wimbledon whom you have joined today. A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion," Nadal wrote in his tweet.

Talking about Ronaldo, the Portuguese plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, while Argentina's Messi plays for American football club Inter Miami.

"No End To Callousness Of State Government": Shashi Tharoor On Manipur

Congress's Shashi Tharoor, at the end of another chaotic day in parliament, sharply criticized the BJP governments at the Centre and in Manipur, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking on the issue. In every nation with a parliamentary system, the Prime Minister is accountable to parliament, and he should take the members "into his confidence" if there is any particular reason for not dismissing the elected government of Manipur, he said. There is "no end to ineptitude and callousness of the state government," Mr Tharoor added.

"It has been an irony for some time. The Prime Minister barely speaks in a house where he is a member. He is one of our most eloquent orators... He speaks from every stage and at every available opportunity," Mr Tharoor told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

"This is one of the gravest crisis our country has faced in a long time... There has been a horrendous loss of lives... 140 or more were killed... there were rapes and violence. On top of that horrendous displacement -- 50,000 people lost their homes. And now it is spreading. In Mizoram, there has been a backlash and Meities are fleeing the state," Mr Tharoor said, declaring that there cannot be a more important subject that needs PM Modi's attention.

"I have no doubts that the state would have found itself under President's Rule (had it been an Opposition-ruled state)," Mr Tharoor added.

"We have had stories of FIRs being filed and ignored for 17 days, really horrific stories of handing over of weapons... The state government is essentially absent without leave. If all this is acceptable to the central government, they must tell the parliament why," he underscored.

The united opposition, he added, is ready for a debate on the issue, but it is essential that the Prime Minister speaks first.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day today amid unrelenting protests by opposition members for PM Modi's statement on the Manipur situation. The protests continued even though Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the House that the government will discuss the issue.

Rajya Sabha proceedings too were adjourned for the day following an uproar over the Manipur issue and the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh for the rest of the monsoon session.

The BJP has alleged that the opposition is running away from a discussion in Parliament as it does not want certain facts to become public.

"Manipur issue pertains to internal and national security… When the Home Minister is asking them to come and discuss, what are the facts of Manipur violence that the Congress wants to hide?" Union minister Smriti Irani said at a press conference.

Deepika Sheds Light On Mom Ujjala's Impact On Her Skincare Regime

Deepika Padukone is undoubtedly the reigning queen of Bollywood. But it is not just the world of cinema that Deepika has been making strides in. The actress also launched her own skincare brand last year, 82°E, spreading her wings as an entrepreneur. Now, in a blog shared by the official website of 82°E, Deepika Padukone has shared her thoughts on skincare and shed light on her inspirations. In particular, Deepika explained how her mother Ujjala has had a profound impact on her skincare regime as well as the brand. “Growing up, like every young girl, I was hugely influenced by my mother. Watching my mother practice, her ‘less is more' skincare routine rubbed off on me too and continues to be my go-to skincare routine. It is also the philosophy that defines all of the skincare products we create at 82°E,” she was quoted as saying.

Deepika Padukone, however, also confessed that she had made several skincare mistakes along the way. Referring to her teenage years when she was a professional badminton player, she said, “During these formative years, I had no real understanding of skincare or good practices for my skin health. All I did was wash my face with water. No cleansing. No hydrating. And definitely no sunscreen.”

Explaining her skincare journey, Deepika Padukone wrote, “It was only in my twenties after I began my modelling and acting career, that I noticed changes in my skin: sun spots, freckles, and pigmentation began to appear, and I started to understand the importance of taking care of my skin. With the realisation that I needed to do more than just ‘wash my face with water' came my Cleanse, Hydrate, and Protect routine. I've found it to be the most simple yet effective routine I've practised. And for anything more complex, I've sought the advice of a dermatologist.”

She also mentioned that over the years, she has come to see her skincare routine as an act of self-love. “However, I've always believed that by practising your skincare routine ‘mindfully', with intention, and without guilt, whether it is for 30 seconds or 30 minutes, you are practising an act of self-care,” Deepika Padukone explained.

A few weeks ago, Deepika Padukone, during an Ask Me Anything explained her mother's influence on how she views skincare and said, “My secret has always been, just keep it very simple and just stick to the fundamentals. It's sort of the mantra that my mother [Ujjala Padukone] taught me while I was growing up, she is like, ‘Don't do too much to your skin, keep it simple; less is more'. So, just as a young kid, a mother tells you that it just sticks with you and I kind of continued that through my journey and my skincare routine. I just focus on cleansing my skin, keeping my skin hydrated, using sunscreen for protecting it from the sun and that's really all I do.”

Here's a glimpse of Deepika Padukone flaunting her gorgeous face, albeit partly.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will be seen in Project K with Prabhas and Jawan [in a cameo] with Shah Rukh Khan.

Women Misusing Anti-Rape Law As Weapon Against Partners: High Court

The Uttarakhand High Court has said the law punishing rape is being misused as a weapon by women these days when they have differences with a male partner.

Justice Sharad Kumar Sharma made the observation on July 5 while quashing criminal proceedings against a man who was accused of rape by a woman after he refused to marry her. They were having consensual relations since 2005.

The Supreme Court has also repeatedly reiterated that a consensual physical relationship between adults cannot be termed rape if one of the parties has refused to marry, the judge said.

The Uttarakhand High Court remarked that women are misusing Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against their male counterparts for various reasons, including discord.

The woman had filed a complaint on June 30, 2020, stating that the accused was having consensual sex with her since 2005. She said the two had promised each other that they would get married as soon as either of them gets a job.

But the accused later married another woman and their relationship continued thereafter, it was claimed.

The High Court said, "The element of consent automatically gets involved when the complainant had voluntarily continued their relationship even after knowing that the accused was already married." The court said that the veracity of an assurance of marriage has to be examined in the initial stage when entering a relationship by mutual consent and not in the later stage.

The high court said that the initial stage cannot be considered when the relationship has lasted for 15 years and even continued after the marriage of the accused.

Adani Wilmar Files Police Complaint Over Fake 'Fortune' Brand Products

Edible oil major Adani Wilmar Ltd today said it has filed a police complaint against a B2B platform for allegedly distributing counterfeit products in the name of its 'Fortune' brand.

As part of a routine market survey, Adani Wilmar representatives discovered the malpractice.

In a statement, the company said it has filed a first information report (FIR) through their agency against the B2B platform for alleged distribution of counterfeit products on the platform.

The FIR has been filed with Badalpur police station in Gautam Budhnagar District, Uttar Pradesh.

Adani Wilmar said the law enforcement authorities conducted a raid at the warehouse of the B2B (business to business) platform "wherein alarming quantities of counterfeit products bearing the 'Fortune' brand name, the flagship brand of Adani Wilmar were seized."

The seized products included 126 pet bottles of Fortune Kacchi Ghani Mustard Oil (1 litre pack) without the lid, 37 fake Fortune Refined Soybean Oil (1 litre pouches), and 16 pet bottles of Fortune Sarso Oil (1 litre packs).

"We are deeply concerned about counterfeit products circulating in the market and posing risks to consumers' health," an Adani Wilmar spokesperson said.

Taking this matter seriously, the spokesperson said the company is collaborating with authorities to swiftly identify sources of counterfeits, and take decisive actions against unscrupulous traders.

According to the statement, the company initiated an in-depth examination of the reported product, which revealed significant mismatches in batch code details, fake QR codes, and different packaging materials, confirming the presence of counterfeit products.

Dalit Man's Face Smeared With Faeces In Madhya Pradesh Shocker

A man has been detained in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur for allegedly smearing human faeces on a Dalit man, who accidentally touched the accused with grease. The incident comes weeks after a man urinated on a tribal man in the state's Sidhi district, triggering massive outrage.

The accused, Ramkripal Patel, belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community.

A case is being registered against Mr Patel under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code, a police officer told news agency PTI.

The victim, Dashrath Ahirwar, who approached the police on Saturday, claimed that the incident occurred on Friday while he was working on the construction of a drain in Bikaura village, about 35 km from the Chhatarpur district headquarters.

The accused was bathing at a nearby hand pump when he touched him with the grease he was using in the construction work by mistake, Mr Ahirwar said.

"Ramkripal Patel brought human faeces in a mug he was using to bathe and smeared it on my body, head, and face," he told reporters, adding that Mr Patel even abused him over his caste.

"I reported the matter to the panchayat and called for a meeting. Instead, the panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 600 on me," Mr. Ahirwar alleged.

"A case is being registered against Ramkripal Patel under Sections 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes (prevention of atrocities) Act," Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Manmohan Singh Baghel said.

Dashrath Ahirwar and the other workers were joking with Mr Patel, who was bathing nearby, Mr Baghel said.

"They were throwing things at one another playfully when Mr Ahirwar put grease on Mr Patel's hand. Mr Patel then picked up human faeces with his hands and threw it at Mr Ahirwar," the police officer said.

The accused and the victim are both in their early 40s, the police said.

Informed About Manipur Video In June? What Women's Panel Chief Said

Following the viral video of women being paraded naked in Manipur, National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said that there were several complaints from people outside the country and Manipur. She also mentioned that NCW is in touch with officers from Manipur.

Sharma was responding to the reports claiming that NCW has received a complaint through a letter on June 12 mentioning the horrific incident of women being paraded naked on May 4.

After the video went viral, the commission took suo motu cognisance of it on Friday and sought an explanation from authorities on the matter.

“First of all, my JS is from Manipur and he is continuously in touch with the officers over there on the phone, so we are in touch with the officers in Manipur. Again and again, I am saying that there were many complaints, there was not one specific complaint and that too from people outside India and outside Manipur. So firstly they had to clarify that whatever written is true and the government of Manipur has to clarify. Firstly, it had to be clarified whether whatever was written is true. Manipur Govt has to clarify and if it is true then they have to work on it. So, accordingly, we wrote to them”, said Commission's chief Rekha Sharma.

On July 20, the National Commission for Women (NCW) formally directed the Head of Public Policy at Twitter India to remove the video showing the disgraceful act of two women being paraded naked in Manipur adding that the video compromises the identities of the victims and is a punishable offence.

A letter on June 12 mentions every horrific detail that these two women are still at the relief camp in Manipur.  Notably, a video of two women being paraded naked by a group of men went viral a day earlier which triggered fresh controversy. However, the incident happened in May this year.
Before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, PM Modi said that he is pained by the incident and no accused will be spared. According to a police official, the incident took place on May 4 in Manipur's Thoubal district and a case of abduction, gang rape and murder has been registered in the matter. Four people were arrested on July 20.

"Change Is Constant...": Ignored India Veteran On National Team Youngsters

Shikhar Dhawan was one of the special panelists present at the launch of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 official film, which was hosted by social media giant Meta in Mumbai on Thursday. The exciting film 'It Takes One Day' featured some of the cricket's top talents as well as Bollywood superstar, Shahrukh Khan, who narrated the specially conceptualised CWC23 'Navarasa', showcasing the raw emotions experienced by fans and players.

The 37-year-old India batter has 13 years of international cricket experience, however, his quest for new learnings hasn't stopped. Expressing his views on the biggest change he has noticed in the way cricket is being played these days, he emphasized on the young generation's mindset and their ability to express themselves.

"It's really good to see. Change is the only constant thing in life. You have to adapt with time. It is lovely to see how players have come up with new strategies and new ways of thinking," said Dhawan at the event as quoted by ICC.

"Even like... we've been playing for such a long time, we get so inspired by all the young players when they come up with some new shots, and personally I ask 'how you played that?'"

Dhawan shared one instance where he tried learning one of Suryakumar Yadav's shots in the T20 World Cup 2022.

"I was asking SKY, he hits that six and I asked him 'What do you do, man?'. So he was like, 'I just bend and I do this'. I said I am going to try that in the nets as well because the more tools you can carry, it gets easier and it's a wonderful mindset."

Comparing the times when he started playing cricket to the modern-day approach, Dhawan explained how the mindset of the youngsters has become a game-changer.

"The thought process is getting broader. Earlier our coaches used to tell us to play down the ground, you don't have to play big shots. So, we were raised with that sort of mindset but now when you see a youngster coming in, they will just go and express themselves.

"So, again, the main point is when I see the younger generation, they express themselves fearlessly. Where else, we also express ourselves but we had that thing because we were mentally trained that we have to play more on the ground but the new generation, they play and they express themselves very nicely and they don't feel that guilt as well that 'I got out this way or that way', so I feel that is the biggest change we have seen and it's amazing."

Dhawan, who has represented India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is with over 10,000 international runs, has a meritorious report card in 50-over global ICC tournaments.

He has featured in the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2015 and 2019 editions of the Cricket World Cup, in these, he has amassed 1,238 runs at 65.15 average, including six centuries.

Having featured in two World Cups, Dhawan spoke about the exhilarating feeling of playing on one of the grandest stages in cricket and what it meant for him as a player.

"It's a very special feeling when you play in a World Cup and that's what you prepare for when you are playing bilateral series," Dhawan said.

"Your main aim in that or when the World Cup is going to come. So we're maturing ourselves and bilateral series are like a step-by-step [process]. You take small steps to reach the bigger target and of course, it's a whole different feeling.

"When the first time my name got into the World Cup team I was like 'alright' and you say to yourself that 'history mein naam aagaya hai ki World Cup bhi khele hain' (It gets mentioned in history that they have also participated in the World Cup). So it is that big [a deal] as a cricketer, and it's a great feeling. And lots of pressure as well," he added.

The blockbuster 2023 Cricket World Cup starts with the epic England v New Zealand clash on October 5, with the Final slated to be played on November 19 at cricket's biggest stadium in Ahmedabad.

On Pak Woman Who Came To India For Love Being A Spy, UP Top Cop Says...

Uttar Pradesh Special Director General of Police Prashant Kumar on Wednesday said it would not be appropriate to say if Pakistani citizen Seema Haider, who entered India illegally in May and is staying with her partner in Noida, is a spy "unless we have enough proof".

He evaded a direct reply when asked if Seema would be deported, and also denied any security lapse along the porous the Indo-Nepal border through which she admittedly entered India.

Seema (30) and her Indian partner Sachin Meena (22) were questioned by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorist Squad on Monday and Tuesday. They were arrested by the local police in Greater Noida on July 4 but granted bail by a court on July 7.

On the ATS questioning, the state police said two video cassettes, four mobile phones, five "authorised" Pakistani passports and one "unused passport" with incomplete name and address, and an identity card have been received from Seema Haider.

Asked if Seema could be a Pakistan spy, Special DGP Prashant Kumar asserted nothing could be said so early. "The matter is related to two countries. Till we have enough proof, it would not be appropriate to say anything in this regard," he said.

In her media interactions since her bail, Seema has been saying she entered India through the Nepal border and travelled to Noida in a bus to be with Sachin whom she met online while playing PUBG game.

Asked whether the entry of a Pakistani citizen in India through the Nepal border was a security lapse, Mr Kumar said, "This is not so. Our border (with Nepal) is porous. No passport is needed there. Nothing is written on anyone's face." Mr Kumar also said no team is being sent to Nepal to probe how she entered India. But the senior officer evaded a direct reply when asked if Seema could be deported. "The law is there in this regard and it will be followed. Action is being taken as per the legal mandate." On the ATS questioning Seema and Sachin, the officer said, "All agencies are doing their work." The couple had first got in touch in 2020 over online game PUBG. They exchanged their WhatsApp numbers after 15 days of online gaming, the UP police said in a statement on Wednesday, summarising the findings of the ATS questioning of the duo over Monday and Tuesday.

Police said Sachin and Seema met for the first time in person in March this year in Kathmandu, Nepal where they stayed together from March 10 to 17. Seema returned to Nepal from Pakistan -- taking the Karachi-Dubai route -- on a 15-day tourist visa on May 10.

In Nepal, she reached from Kathmandu to Pokhara and stayed for the night. Seema then took a bus from Pokhara on the morning of May 12 and entered India from Roopandehi-Khunwa (Khunwa) border district Siddharthnagar.

Travelling via Lucknow and Agra, she reached the Rabupura cut, Gautam Buddha Nagar on March 13. Sachin had already taken a rented room in Rabupura where they started living together, the UP police said.

Seema was arrested by local police for entering India illegally and Sachin was held for sheltering illegal immigrants. However, they both were granted bail by a local court on July 7 and have been living together along with her four children in a house in the Rabupura area.

Seema has also said she does not wish to go back to Pakistan and wants to live with Sachin. She also claimed to have turned a Hindu.

Pakistan's intelligence agencies have informed the country's government that "love" is the "only" factor that led the mother of four to sneak into India to live with a Hindu man whom she befriended through an online game platform, a media report said on Monday.

At BJP Conclave, Feuding Paswans Meet, Greet And Then Hug

The distant factions of Bihar's Lok Janshakti Party took one step towards each other today as Chirag Paswan was seen touching his uncle Pashupati Paras's feet and getting a warm hug in return at the NDA meet presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The amity was on display less than 72 hours after Mr Paras was heard making strong remarks against his nephew and declaring that he has said a firm "no" to the BJP's suggestion that the divided party unify.

Chirag Paswan has joined the NDA and became one of the 38 allies who had a mega meeting in Delhi today. At the meet, he was greeted with a hug by the Prime Minister too -- a moment he shared on Twitter.

The uncle and nephew have been at loggerheads since the Bihar assembly election -- the latest flashpoint being Ram Vilas Paswan's of seat of Hajipur. Earlier this week, Mr Paras had doubled down saying that he would not give up Hajipur. "He (Chirag) has no standing in Hajipur. I wonder why he is spending his time there," he said.

Today, Chirag Paswan asserted his claims over Hajipur and made light of his uncle's objections. Hajipur, he said, was the stronghold of his father Ram Vilas Paswan and it was his duty to take over the responsibilities.

A minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, Mr Paras had also directed several jabs at his nephew, questioning why he was not allotted Hajipur during his father's lifetime. "Why is that when your father was alive, you were asked to contest from Jamui and not from Hajipur," he said.

The faction led by Mr Paras had said they will not oppose Chirag Paswan's entry into NDA, but they would not welcome him either.

Mr Paswan today sounded a conciliatory note. Both of them are part of the NDA now and should now focus on winning the upcoming polls, he said.

Sources said Mr Paswan had sought six Lok Sabha and one Rajya Sabha seat for his party during his talks with Union minister and the BJP's chief strategist Amit Shah. It was not known if his request was granted.

"It will be against coalition dharma for me to speak about the details of my discussions with BJP leaders. But yes, my party's concerns about Lok Sabha and assembly polls were part of the deliberations and they have been addressed positively by the BJP," Mr Paswan said today.

Video: Men Tease, Approach Herd Of Elephants, Internet Reacts

In a terrifying event, four men narrowly avoided a dangerous scenario after attempting to get close to a herd of wild elephants. In the video shared by Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda, a group of tourists can be seen approaching a herd of elephants inside a forest.

The video shows an elephant crossing a street, with a few calves in the group. The tourists can be heard making peculiar sounds with their mouths. The noise startled the elephants and the elephants increased their speed, in fact, one of them even tried to charge towards the group. Realising that they are in mortal danger, the men also tried to flee the scene.

Mr Nanda posted the video along with a stern warning. He wrote, "Ridiculous crowd behaviour. An elephant herd with a young calf can be highly aggressive. Don't put your life at stake. Allow them safe passage. They have the first right."

See the video here:

Since being posted, the video has amassed nearly 40,000 views on Twitter and netizens demanded strict action against the group of tourists.

A user commented, "They shud be arrested and prosecuted for such behaviour...one question do they do the same when they see families around."

"Sir, please some action to put these guys behind bars," another user commented on Twitter.

"They are very sensible to subsonic, sonic and ultrasonic sounds. Such noise can be extremely annoying for them, especially for young ones," the third user wrote.

"Need strict action against these irresponsible people," the fourth user commented.

"Absolutely ridiculous. Strict Action against those miscreants can change the situation," the fifth wrote.
