According to the list, pastel de nata, a traditional Portuguese egg custard tart, has been named the best street food sweet globally. The tarts used to be prepared by Catholic monks and nuns in Santa Maria de Belem in Lisbon, Portugal, before the 18th century. Leftover egg yolks were used to make the dish after which clerics roped in a bakery to sell pastel de nata commercially.

The second rank on the list has been secured by serabi from Java, Indonesia. These are small Indonesian pancaked made with rice flour and a choice of coconut milk or shredded coconut. Serabis are available in both sweet and savoury versions and can be topped up with anything from jackfruits and chocolates to bananas and crushed peanuts.

Dondurma from Kahramanmaras, Turkey, is the third-best street food sweet in the world, as per Tasteatlas. It is basically Turkish ice cream that originated in the city of Maras and is known for its resistance to melting and dense, chewy texture.
