"Has Worst...": Kohli Gets Brutal Reality Check As Smith, Root Pile Runs
Steve Smith has regained his mojo in Test cricket, with the Australia batter smashing his 36th century in the format on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. During the same knock, Smith, who is leading Australia in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, became only the fourth Australian to breach the landmark of 10,000 Tests runs. Former India batter Aakash Chopra has lauded Smith, who now stands at 10,140 runs at an average of 56.33 in 115 Tests.
Chopra pointed out that Smith now has five more Test centuries then Virat Kohli, despite the latter playing five more innings.
"Smith has scored a century (against Sri Lanka). He has struck his 35th century in just 205 innings. (Joe) Root has scored 36 hundreds but he has played 278 innings. So if you look at it in terms of the strike rate, the number of innings he takes to score a century, then Steve Smith is ahead of Joe Root," said Chopra on his Youtube channel.
Chopra also highlighted that Kohli now has the worst average, in comparison to his Fab 4 contemporaries -- Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson.
"If I see Virat Kohli here, he has played 210 innings, which means he has played five more innings than Steve Smith and has five centuries fewer than him. So Virat Kohli, unfortunately, now has the worst strike rate because he has scored only three centuries in the last five years," Chopra added.
Meanwhile, Kohli endured a tough 2024. In 10 Tests last year, he scored just 417 runs at an average of 24.52 with just one century and fifty, to conclude a disappointing year.
He has been facing a massive decline in his Test performances that dates back to the start of 2020. In 39 Test matches since the start of 2020, Virat has scored just 2,028 runs at an average of 30.72, with just three centuries and nine fifties to show. His best score is 186.

Putin Says Talks With Ukraine Possible, But Not With Zelensky
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that talks with Ukraine were possible but not with its President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he deemed "illegitimate".
US President Donald Trump has put pressure on both sides to end the nearly three-year conflict, saying last week that Zelensky wanted to negotiate a "deal" to stop the fighting.
"If (Zelensky) wants to participate in the negotiations, I will allocate people to take part in the negotiations," Putin said, calling the Ukrainian leader "illegitimate" because his presidential term expired during martial law.
"If there is a desire to negotiate and find a compromise, let anyone lead the negotiations there... Naturally, we will strive for what suits us, what corresponds to our interests," he added.
Putin also claimed the fighting would end in two months or less if the West cut its support to Kyiv.
"They will not exist for a month if the money and, in a broad sense, the bullets run out. Everything would be over in a month and a half or two," Putin said.
The conflict has shown no signs of de-escalating despite Trump's promise to enact a quick ceasefire once in office.
Russian officials said Monday that nobody in Trump's team had reached out about setting up a meeting with Putin, but that both sides appeared to be ready for one.
Kyiv has warned against it being excluded from any peace talks, accusing Putin of wanting to "manipulate" Trump.

"Stick To The Catholic Church, Fix That": Trump's Border Czar Homan, To Pope
The war of words between US Border Czar Tom Homan and Pope Francis has escalated, with Homan firing back at the Vatican's leader over his criticism of President Donald Trump's deportation policies. In a televised interview, Homan accused Pope Francis of hypocrisy, pointing to the Vatican's own robust security measures, including a wall around the Vatican.
"They have a wall around the Vatican," Homan said. "If you illegally enter the Vatican, the crime is serious. You'll be charged with a serious crime and jailed. So he can protect the Vatican where he lives. He can build a wall where he lives, but the American people are not allowed that."
Homan also called on Pope Francis to focus on addressing issues within the Catholic Church, saying "The Pope ought to stick to the Catholic Church and fix that. That's a mess."

Pope Francis has been a vocal advocate for migrant rights, criticising restrictive immigration policies. Nearly a decade after calling Trump "not Christian" for his plans to build a US-Mexico border wall, the pontiff reiterated his stance during an appearance on the Italian talk show Che Tempo Che Fa.
"If true, this will be a disgrace," Francis said of Trump's deportation pledges. "It makes the poor wretches who have nothing pay the bill. This won't do! This is not the way to solve things. That's not how things are resolved."
The Pope's comments came as the Trump administration has intensified deportation operations, with immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) arresting 538 people on Thursday and 593 on Friday, some of whom were flown out of the country on military planes. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt touted the efforts as part of the administration's "largest deportation operation in history," aligning with Trump's campaign promises to crack down on illegal immigration.
The exchange between Homan and Pope Francis highlights the deep divisions over immigration policy in the United States. As the Trump administration continues to enforce stricter immigration rules, critics argue that the policies are inhumane and go against American values. Supporters, on the other hand, argue that the policies are necessary to maintain national security and enforce the rule of law.

Security Guards In Saif's Building Were Sleeping When Attacker Entered: Cops
The Bangladeshi national arrested for attacking Saif Ali Khan gained entry into the actor's building in Mumbai's Bandra area by scaling its compound wall, and found the security guards sleeping at that time, police said on Tuesday.
The Mumbai police on Tuesday recreated the crime scene with the accused at the Satguru Sharan building, where the actor resides.
Khan (54) was stabbed repeatedly by the intruder, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir alias Vijay Das (30), inside his 12-floor apartment in the wee hours of January 16. The actor suffered multiple stab injuries in the attack and underwent an emergency surgery at the Lilavati Hospital.
Three days after the attack, the police arrested the accused from neighbouring Thane city.
A police official said, "Both the security guards in the building where actor Saif Ali Khan resides were sleeping when his attacker entered it by crossing over the boundary wall." "As he found both the security guards in deep slumber, the accused entered the building from the main entrance where no CCTV camera has been installed. The accused removed his shoes and kept them in his bag to avoid making any noise and also switched off his phone," he said.
"During the probe, the police found that there are no CCTV cameras installed in the building's corridor. The investigation revealed that one of the two security guards was sleeping in the cabin and the other near the gate," he added.
In order to recreate the crime scene, the police took the accused to the actor's building as well as at other places that he possibly visited to have food, to change clothes and to board a train, he said.
The accused is kept in the police lockup either at the Bandra or the Santacruz police stations and no one except the investigation officer has permission to meet him, he said, adding that he is being provided food that other accused are being given.
Police Inspector (Crime) Ajay Lingnurkar has been appointed as the investigation officer in the case, the official said.
Fakir, a native of Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, had been residing in Mumbai for over five months, working odd jobs and associated with a housekeeping agency, the police have said.
A court in Mumbai on Sunday remanded the accused in five-day police custody.

US Man Alleges Wrongful Damage Claim By Airbnb, Shares Update After Post Went Viral
Airbnb is one of the most popular platforms for finding stays while travelling. But a US man allegedly had a rather unpleasant experience with the company. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Luke Burgis shared how he and his family stayed in New York City through Airbnb but was hit with a request to pay for damages afterwards. After their stay, the property owner claimed there was a stain on the floor and demanded $7,500 to fix it, which included replacing the floorboards.

The man also alleged that Airbnb sided with the property owner because he couldn't provide a photo of the floor at the moment he and his family walked out the door.
My wife, daughter, and I stayed at an @Airbnb in NYC in November. Perfectly normal stay. Nothing happened. When we left, the owner said there was a small stain on the hardwood floor he couldn't clean and said it took him $7500 to fix, including literally replacing floorboards. We…

In another update, the man shared that after his post started going viral, he began receiving messages from Airbnb employees. According to his note, they admitted that they “lacked sufficient documentation” and wouldn't be pursuing any payment from him. They also mentioned that they were closing the case and file. He was informed that the damage claim from the owner might be covered under Airbnb's “AirCover for Hosts” protection.
Time for an update: shortly after this post began going viral, I began receiving correspondence from employees of AirBNB. First a phone call—which I didn't answer because I was out to dinner with my wife and didn't recognize the number, and it was nearly 7pm on a Friday night—and…

Harassed By Lenders, Man Kills Wife And Son, Survives Suicide Attempt: Cops
A 45-year-old man on Saturday allegedly killed his wife and minor son by administering them a heavy dose of sleeping pills before attempting suicide due to “harassment” by moneylenders, police said.
The man, Vaibhav Hande from Chikhali near Pune city, is being treated in a hospital and police have booked four persons, identified as Santosh Kadam, Surekha Kadam, Santosh Pawar and Javed Khan, in connection with the deaths, the official said.
In his complaint, Vaibhav said he gave several sleeping pills to his wife Shubhangi Hande, 36, and their 9-year-old son Dhanraj in the morning, resulting in their death. Vaibhav then tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan in their flat.
On Friday night, Vaibhav had sent a note on the mobile phone of his 14-year-old son, whom he had sent to his relative's place in Mumbai, detailing his plan.
The teenager panicked after reading the message in the morning and made frantic calls to their neighbours to check on his family. When the neighbours did not get any response despite repeated knocks on the door, they called the police, the official said.
Police entered the flat and found Vaibhav alive. He was then rushed to a private hospital, the official said.
“The complainant had borrowed Rs 6 lakh and Rs 2 lakh at a monthly interest rate of 10 per cent from accused Santosh Kadam and Surekha, respectively. He had also taken Rs 4 lakh from Javed Khan at high interest,” the official said, quoting Vaibhav's complaint.
The complainant told the police that he had repaid the principal and an additional Rs 9 lakh to the moneylenders but they were harassing him to pay more, the official said.
The accused have been booked for criminal intimidation and a probe is underway, the official said.

Hours After Killing Cash Van Guard, Robbers Shoot At Man In Another State
After shooting the guard of an ATM cash vehicle in Karnataka's Bidar on Thursday afternoon and escaping with Rs 93 lakh in cash, two robbers opened fire at another person in Hyderabad hours later.
The latest victim, who works as a manager at a private travel firm, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. An alert has been sounded in the entire city and efforts are underway to arrest the accused, the police added.
The incident took place at Afzal Gunj area when the robbers were preparing to board a bus to travel to Raipur.
Sources said the two men arrived in Hyderabad on a bike after committing the murder and robbery in Bidar and then visited a private travel agency's office to book tickets for a bus to Raipur.
The agency's owner, Rais Ahmad, told reporters that the two men visited his office between 3pm and 4pm.
"One of them introduced himself as Amit Kumar. Their bus was scheduled to leave at around 7pm. We usually inspect luggage if we find anything suspicious. When our manager, Jahangir, asked them to open their bag, the accused took out a few bundles of notes and tried to bribe him. When Jahangir insisted on seeing the contents of the bag, the accused opened fire at him and subsequently escaped," Mr Ahmad said.
Jahangir underwent a surgery and is recovering in a hospital, he added.
Earlier in the day, the two men shot dead an ATM cash vehicle guard and injured another as they looted Rs 93 lakh from the vehicle in Bidar. The incident took place in front of the State Bank of India's (SBI's) main branch in the city, where the van was parked to reload an ATM.
One of the guards in the vehicle, Giri Venkatesh, died on the spot, while another guard, Shivakumar, sustained injuries. Doctors said that Shivakumar is in a critical condition.
Before opening fire, the robbers threw chilli powder on the guards, police said. Although local residents raised an alarm, threw stones at them, and attempted to catch them, the robbers managed to escape.

Was Moana A Copy? Disney Faces $10 Billion Lawsuit From Animator
Disney has been sued by animator Buck Woodall for allegedly copying the idea for the animated movie Moana and its sequel, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. As per the lawsuit filed in the California federal court last week, Disney copied elements of a screenplay Mr Woodall wrote for an animated film called Bucky which has similar themes of teenagers from an ancient Polynesian village embarking on adventures to save their homes.
Mr Woodall is suing Disney for $10 billion, or 2.5 per cent of Moana's gross revenue. He claims he provided the screenplay and trailer of his movie to former Mandeville Films director of development Jenny Marchick who is now DreamWorks Animation's head of development for features.
"Disney's Moana was produced in the wake of Woodall's delivery to the Defendants of virtually all constituent parts necessary for its development and production after more than 17 years of inspiration and work on his animated film project," read the complaint.
"Moana and her crew are sucked into a perilous whirlpool-like oceanic portal, another dramatic and unique device-imagery found in Plaintiffs materials that could not possibly have been developed by chance or without malicious intentions," it added.
Mr Woodall had filed a similar lawsuit over the first Moana film but a court ruling in November last year relieved Disney, stating that the complainant had waited too long to file the suit. However, the release of the sequel granted him the ability to take legal action again.
Disney is yet to comment on the new lawsuit but during the previous hearing, it claimed that no one involved in the creation of Moana saw Mr Woodall's materials.
"Moana was not inspired by or based in any way on [Woodall] or his ‘Bucky' project, which I learned of for the first time after this lawsuit was filed,” director Ron Clements wrote in a declaration to the court at the time.

Moana 2 release
Moana 2 released last year and is the direct sequel to the 2016 smash hit, following the life of Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) as she gathers crew for a new adventure, alongside Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson. The movie managed to rake in $964 million which made it the fourth-highest-grossing movie of 2024.
The movie's success is not limited to the box office with many believing it to be the leading contender in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories at various ceremonies during the 2024-2025 awards season.

Pastor Who Predicted Trump's Assassination Bid Now Warns Of A Doomsday Event
Brandon Dale Biggs, an Oklahoma pastor and self-proclaimed prophet who said he accurately predicted the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, has come up with another eerie prediction. Mr Biggs said god had shown him a vision of a 10-magnitude earthquake which may kill thousands of people across the US, according to a report in Metro. Mr Biggs claimed that the earthquake would hit the New Madrid fault line, stretching through Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois.
'It was so big, there were 1,800 people who died [along that stretch]. All the houses on cinder blocks were completely shaken to the foundation, they just fell," said Mr Biggs.
'[The] New Madrid earthquake [is] so big [and] when it happens the Mississippi River starts it goes out another direction.'
Notably, in a YouTube video dated March 14, 2024, Mr Biggs said the US president-elect would be targeted and that a bullet would fly by his ear.
“I saw Trump, rising up, and then I saw an attempt on his life. This bullet flew by his ear, and it came so close to his head that it busted his eardrum," Biggs told Pastor Steve Cioccolanti in the video.
“And I saw, he fell to his knees during this time frame, and he started worshipping the Lord.”
A few months later, Mr Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt while addressing a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The bullet fired by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks kissed Mr Trump's right ear before the security officials killed the former.
Is a 10-magnitude earthquake possible?
Contrary to Mr Biggs' claims, earthquakes of magnitude 10 or greater cannot happen, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The magnitude of an earthquake is related to the length of the fault on which it occurs. That is, the longer the fault, the larger the earthquake. Currently, no fault on Earth is long enough to generate such a megaquake.
The largest earthquake ever recorded was a magnitude 9.5 on May 22, 1960 in Chile on a fault that is almost 1,000 miles long.

Other predictions
While Mr Biggs has claimed that a massive earthquake is around, Nostradamus' predictions suggest that 2025 may witness a giant asteroid colliding with the Earth, or coming in dangerous proximity to the planet.
Born Michel de Nostredame, Nostradamus was a French astrologer and physician who lived in the 1500s and predicted some of the modern-day epochal moments such as Adolf Hitler's rise to power, the September 11 attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Similarly, Baba Vanga, another seer popular for predicting global events, warned that catastrophic natural disasters, including earthquakes along the US West Coast and eruption of dormant volcanoes, were possible in 2025.

"It Broke Me": Imran Khan's Ex-Wife Shares Cryptic Post About Their Divorce
Imran Khan and Avantika Malik married in 2011. However, after eight years of marriage, they decided to part ways in 2019. Recently, Avantika opened up about the emotional turmoil she experienced during their divorce. In a cryptic post, she shared how the year 2019 was a pivotal and painful moment in her life, adding that it "broke" her.
In her post, Avantika wrote, "The truth is, the number of days we have here is actually not so large. So if you have the opportunity to wake up tomorrow, to let this world age you, weather you, and meet you where you are for even just one more golden minute, I hope you show up for it. Do as much as you possibly can with your time here. Risk your heart. Express."
She continued, "Take care of others, leaving them better than you found them. Give yourself permission to take up space. Be all that you are. Love the way you hope to love and love people on purpose, with depth and intention. Keep rescuing those younger parts of yourself. Forgive. Put every ounce of your patchwork soul into this world, crack tenderness into all of its dark corners. Stay soft, stay curious, but most importantly just hold on to your hope. Hold on to your hope."
In the caption, Avantika also reflected on a meeting with a couple of friends she hadn't seen since 2019. She shared how they both noticed a change in her.
She wrote, "The last time they saw me in the flesh was 2019, the year I broke and unravelled... And then they saw me now. And they both had the same things to say... That they finally see me being authentic, the real me. And the joy they see brings to my eyes, a glow to my face... and I knew they were telling me the truth. But the best thing they said to me was that I was 'living.'"
Avantika then reflected on how she had reached this point of transformation, attributing it to her consistent choice of hope even in the darkest times. I know it's because somehow, shockingly, I always chose hope. In the darkest, bleakest moments (and there were a few), I reminded myself that if all I do is focus on putting out the love within me, the universe will generously reflect that back to me. What is within is without," she concluded.
Imran Khan and Avantika Malik, who had been together since childhood, married in a grand ceremony in 2011. After their separation in 2019, they continued to co-parent their daughter, Imara. Imran is now in a relationship with actress Lekha Washington.

Elon Musk Was Asked If He Believes In God, He Said...
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has revealed he is open to the "idea of God", but his views remain shaped by a physics-based perspective of reality. The Tesla CEO, in a January 10 interview with German leader Alice Wiedel, shared his thoughts on the existence of a higher power.
"I'm open to believing in things proportionate to the information that I receive," Musk said, when asked if he believed in God. He elaborated, explaining his perspective as rooted in a "physics view of reality," adding, "I'm just open to the idea of God."
Musk reflected on the origins of the universe, suggesting that the concept of God could apply to the creation of the cosmos. "If you say, where did the universe come from? How is it created? I suppose there would be some entity that you could call God. I don't know," the SpaceX CEO admitted.
But Musk also drew a distinction between a creative entity and a moral observer. He questioned whether such an entity is watching over our daily actions and passing moral judgment. "That doesn't appear to be the case because, you know, at least there's some very evil things that happen in the world," he said. "If there's someone observing us on a moral basis continually, then it does seem odd that some very evil things are allowed to occur."
Despite his uncertainties, Musk said, "Maybe that is the case. I don't know what I learned. And as I learn more, I aspire to change my views to match what I learned."

Last year, Musk described himself as a "cultural Christian" during an interview with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson. While not a "particularly religious person", Musk said he believed in the wisdom of Christian teachings, particularly the principle of "turning the other cheek."

US Flags Will Fly At Half-Mast During Donald Trump's Inauguration: Here's Why
US flags will fly at half-mast this month to mourn the death of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29 at the age of 100. The directive comes as part of a proclamation issued by President Joe Biden, ordering flags at federal buildings and US embassies to remain lowered for 30 days as a mark of respect. The mourning period overlaps with the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20.
The President-elect publicly voiced his displeasure with the timing of the flag-lowering order.
Biden's proclamation ensures the flags remain at half-mast throughout the inauguration period, and Trump cannot alter the directive until he officially assumes office.
Let's take a closer look at the protocol behind lowering flags.
What is the US flag code, and how does it apply to this situation?
The US flag code outlines when and how flags should be flown at half-mast. It specifies that flags must be lowered for a 30-day period following the death of a sitting or former president. This directive applies to federal government buildings, US embassies, military installations and vessels both domestically and internationally.
Who has the authority to order flags to be flown at half-mast?
The President of the United States, state governors and the Mayor of the District of Columbia have the power to order flags to be flown at half-mast. In this case, President Joe Biden issued the order.
What has Donald Trump said about the flags being lowered during his inauguration?
Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction over the decision to keep flags at half-mast on his inauguration day. He posted on social media saying, "The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half-mast' during my inauguration.
"They think it's so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don't love our country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they've done to our once great America over the past four years," he said.
"It's a total mess! In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time during the inauguration of a future president, be at half-mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let's see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" he added.
Can Trump reverse the decision to lower the flags once he takes office?
Yes, he can. Although the US flag code recommends a 30-day mourning period, it is not a mandatory rule. Once Trump assumes office, he can change the order and raise the flags to full height.
Has Trump previously taken issue with flags being lowered?
Yes, he has. In 2018, after the death of Arizona Senator John McCain, Trump faced criticism for his handling of the flag-lowering protocol. The flags at the White House were initially lowered to half-mast but were raised to full height after the weekend. This move sparked backlash, and the flags were subsequently lowered again.
Is there a historical precedent for flags being half-mast during a presidential inauguration?
Yes, there is. In January 1973, flags were at half-mast during Richard Nixon's second inauguration following the death of former President Harry S Truman. Nixon ordered the flags to be lowered, and they remained at half-mast for a portion of his inaugural celebrations.
