This Simple Brain Exercise Could Reverse Aging, New Study Reveals

A new clinical trial led by McGill University has provided the first human evidence that online brain training can improve the brain's learning and memory systems. The study found that older adults who used the BrainHQ app, designed like a game, for 10 weeks showed noticeable improvements in cholinergic function, a vital brain chemical system linked to attention, memory, and decision-making.

This system typically declines with age, but the findings suggest that regular mental exercises through such apps can help strengthen brain function and possibly slow cognitive aging. This landmark study, published in JMIR Serious Games, represents a pivotal advancement in leveraging digital interventions to enhance cognitive resilience and brain health among older adults.

"The training restored cholinergic health to levels typically seen in someone 10 years younger," said senior author Dr Etienne de Villers-Sidani, an Associate Professor in McGill's Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and neurologist at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital).

"This is the first time any intervention, drug or non-drug, has been shown to do that in humans," he said.

Because Alzheimer's disease is linked to sharp declines in cholinergic health, the results help explain previous findings that such exercises can lower dementia risk and enhance cognitive performance. The researchers suggest this type of brain training could serve as a safer alternative to medication or work effectively alongside it.

BrainHQ features speed-based cognitive games that adapt to become more demanding as users improve, an approach supported by hundreds of scientific studies.

"A lot of people assume crossword puzzles or reading are enough to keep the brain sharp. But not all activities truly promote neuroplasticity," said de Villers-Sidani.

Since BrainHQ is already commercially available, clinicians can discuss it with patients who want to take an active role in maintaining or improving brain health, he added.

To track brain changes, researchers used a special PET scan and tracer that makes cholinergic reserves visible on the scan, allowing them to see how active the cholinergic system was before and after training.

"We used a rare technology," said de Villers-Sidani. "The Neuro is one of the few centres worldwide that can produce the tracer and run the scan."

The study enrolled 92 healthy adults aged 65 and older. Participants were randomly assigned to either BrainHQ training or an active control using computer games designed for entertainment. Each group was assigned their activity on a tablet for 30 minutes per day for 10 weeks. Only the BrainHQ group showed gains in cholinergic activity. The researchers are planning a follow-up study to test the program in people with early-stage dementia.

Bengaluru Techie Orders Rs 1.87-Lakh Smartphone, Gets A Tile Instead

A Bengaluru-based software engineer fell victim to a delivery scam after receiving a piece of tile instead of a Rs 1.87 Lakh Samsung smartphone he had ordered through online shopping platform Amazon.

The man, Premanand, placed an order for a smartphone on October 14 through the Amazon app and paid the complete amount through his credit card.

He recorded a video of unboxing the sealed package that was delivered on October 19 and found a piece of tile instead of the smartphone.

"I had ordered a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 worth Rs 1.87 lakh, but to my shock, I received a marble stone instead of the phone just a day before Diwali. This incident completely ruined the festive spirit we had been eagerly waiting to celebrate all year. I urge everyone to be extremely cautious while shopping online, especially on Amazon. This experience has been deeply disappointing," said Premanand.

He immediately lodged a report on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and later approached the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station to register a formal complaint.

Police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case.

Amazon has refunded the amount to Premanand as the investigation continues.

KBC 17: Krushna Recalls Accompanying Govinda To Bade Miyan... Set

Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 continues to charm its viewers with new celebrity guests and light-hearted moments. Hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, the show is not just about tough questions and prize money – it is also about nostalgia, laughter, and stories that connect generations of Bollywood fans.

As part of the Diwali special, comedians Krushna Abhishek and Sunil Grover took the hot seat, keeping both Big B and the audience entertained with their fun banter. When a question about the 1998 film Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda, popped up, Krushna shared a personal memory connected to the movie.

The comedian said, “This film was a celebration in our family because ChiChi mama got to work with you. It was a big deal for us. I was also on the sets of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. I would accompany my mama, Govinda, everyday. I also have a photo with you.”

Krushna then showed an old picture featuring himself, Amitabh Bachchan, and Govinda. Amitabh smiled and quickly guessed which one was Krushna in the photo, saying, “You haven't changed a bit. You still look the same.”

Krushna Abhishek went on to share another heartwarming story involving Amitabh Bachchan's son, Abhishek Bachchan. “One of the best moments of my life. I got an award for Bol Bachchan, but I didn't get. Your son Abhishek Bachchan won the Best Actor award in a comic role. But he called me on stage and gave me that award. My year was made,” the comedian said. Released in 2012, Bol Bachchan featured Abhishek Bachchan as Abbas Ali and Krushna Abhishek as Ravi Shastri. The project was directed by Rohit Shetty.

Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 premiered on August 11. The show airs every Monday to Friday on Sony Entertainment Television. Fans can also catch the episodes on SonyLIV.

World Cup "Long Way Off" For Kohli: Shastri Declares After 2nd Duck vs Aus

Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli's coach-captain combination in the Indian cricket team was responsible for ushering in a new era of supreme fitness. When the duo was at the helm, India's prowess in pace bowling grew manifold, and there were several memorable overseas Test wins as well. Shastri, therefore, understands Virat Kohli's mentality better than most. After the batter was dismissed for his second straight duck in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, Shastri said the 2027 ODI World Cup was still "a long way off" for Kohli.

"He'll have to get some form pretty quickly. The competition for places in India's white-ball cricket is such that no one can afford to relax-whether it's Virat, Rohit, or anyone else in the team. It's not going to be easy; there is competition," Shastri said on Fox Sports.

"He's missed out again today. He was a little tentative with his footwork. It doesn't happen often-his record in one-day cricket is phenomenal-so for him to get two ducks on the trot, he'll be disappointed."

Silence fell across the Adelaide Oval on Thursday as Virat Kohli registered his second consecutive duck in the ongoing ODI series against Australia-the first instance of back-to-back ducks in his illustrious 50-over career. After recording an eight-ball duck in the series opener at Perth on Sunday, Kohli walked into the Adelaide Oval, one of his favourite venues, hoping to change his luck and take control of the game.

Considering his record at the venue over the years, experts, fans, and pundits expected the seasoned cricketer to perform well in the second ODI. In what is likely to be Kohli's final appearance at the iconic Adelaide Oval, the Indian veteran was outsmarted by the young Xavier Bartlett, continuing a dismal run in the series.

Kohli has a brilliant record at the famous ground, averaging 52.70 in Tests, and before the second ODI, he averaged 61 in the white-ball format.

Indian Entrepreneur To Leave Canada Over Bureaucratic Troubles, Post Viral

An Indian-origin entrepreneur running an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Foodtech platform in Canada has gone viral after announcing his plans to leave the country. Maulik Pandya, the CEO and founder of Eatance, took to LinkedIn to announce his decision after enduring a bureaucratic nightmare where he faced a "new trap from the Canadian system" almost every day.

"We are leaving Canada. We made this decision through tears. We are dissolving our beautiful nest we built with love as family of four with two wonderful daughters," wrote Pandya.

"We did not come to this lightly. We have spent many sleepless nights, cried and watched our mental health and physical health fade," he added.

Pandya said his family's journey in Canada was cut short owing to the bureaucratic hurdles that led to issues regarding her daughter's education and the company's future. Pandya said he kept losing money while paying taxes, creating jobs and contributing to the economy.

"Many countries provide a single window for startups and for businesses. In Canada we met delays and traps. It felt as if our innocent children became targets. That is our lived experience," he said.

Pandya added he was planning for his child to continue their education in the UAE or India. "Our decision is simple. We are not asking for anything more. We are closing this chapter and moving forward for the sake of our children and our peace," he said.

'Come Back To India'

As the post gained significant traction online, a section of social media users sympathised with Pandya, whilst others advised him to return to India and expand his company.

"This is heartbreaking to read. After such an immense effort, I deeply admire your strength and resolve to make this decision for your family's well-being and future," said one user, while another added: "I hope you are coming back to India. Use the learning, life lessons and build your next venture in India. In next six months, you will heal your trauma and have a more cheerful life."

A third commented: "It's heartbreaking to see how often brilliant minds are pushed away by red tape. But sometimes, what feels like an ending is actually a redirection, back to where you're meant to build."

A fourth said: "I am praying for you and the family, and I wish you the very best as you build your next chapter in business and life. It takes a very strong person to make this type of decision, Maulik."

Ishaan Khatter At NDTV World Summit 2025: "Janhvi Is Very Sincere"

At the NDTV World Summit 2025 session titled Ishaan Khatter: Fierce, Fearless, Free, the actor opened up about the incredible experience that his film Homebound has given him. He also spoke highly of his co-stars Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa and how "Homebound couldn't exist without them."

What's Happening

  • As the host mentioned how "acting is also about reacting", he questioned Ishaan on the crucial role that Janhvi and Vishal played in making Homebound what it is.
  • Ishaan said, "I think both Vishal and Janhvi are pieces without whom this film would not exist. I would say the same for everyone in the cast. Every single person was encouraged to give their opinion on set. It felt like family."
  • Ishaan, who had worked with Janhvi in her debut film Dhadak, said, "I have always known her passion for storytelling. She is very sincere, and she possesses a desire to go beyond the surface level. I know from the beginning she was happy to be championing the story. I remember she said, 'I'll be a tree in the background if you want me to be.'"
  • He added, "Vishal is such a bright talent and such a dynamic character with great range. It is very rare to see that in a young actor like him. I am very proud of him. I have seen his journey through this film and how it has almost entered his consciousness."

On Homebound Receiving A 9-Minute Standing Ovation At Cannes

The film had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section before travelling to the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year. It is now India's official entry for the 2026 Oscars.

Speaking about the audience's reaction, Ishaan Khatter shared, "This is a film that is extremely special to me, and at the risk of sounding shameless, I'm thankful to everyone who has championed it. It's a rare kind of film - very humane - and I'm very proud of it. It's been surreal, a milestone to be sitting in an audience like that at Cannes. It was overwhelming, understandably; time was warped for me - it was all very surreal."

Ajay Devgn Opens Up About Tabu's Absence From De De Pyaar De 2

The much-awaited trailer of De De Pyaar De 2 was launched at a grand event on Tuesday, October 14. On this special occasion, the film's star-studded cast, including Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, Javed Jaffrey, Meezaan Jafri, Rakul Preet Singh, and Gautami Kapoor, came together to interact with the media. The sequel to the 2019 romantic comedy has already created quite a buzz, but one big question lingers in fans' minds: where is Tabu?

The first part of De De Pyaar De saw Ajay Devgn romancing Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh in a story that explored love, age, and second chances with trademark Luv Ranjan-style humour. However, with Tabu missing from the trailer of the sequel, speculation has quickly grown about whether she will return in De De Pyaar De 2.

Luv Ranjan Hints At Tabu's Return

When asked about Tabu's absence, co-producer Luv Ranjan hinted at the possibility of her return in the future. "Hopefully, a third part will happen. In the first part, we went to the man's house. Now, we've gone to the girl's house. If everything goes well, then we'll also make both families meet," he said, suggesting that a potential third instalment could reunite all the characters.

Ajay Devgn followed up with his trademark wit, adding, "Like Luv said, if everything works out very well, then when both the families meet, she'll be a part of it." His comment left fans hopeful that Tabu might indeed return in a possible De De Pyaar De 3.

A New Director Brings A Fresh Vision

The sequel also sees a change in director. While the first part was helmed by Akiv Ali, De De Pyaar De 2 is directed by Anshul Sharma. When asked about the change, Ajay clarified, "Anshul was involved throughout the making of Part One as well." Luv Ranjan further explained, "He was the creative producer on Part One. Akiv wanted to do an action drama this time and didn't want to repeat the same job."

With a fresh storyline, a new director, and the addition of R. Madhavan to the cast, De De Pyaar De 2 promises to bring a new twist to the franchise's beloved blend of comedy and romance. The film is set to hit cinemas on November 14.

Major Road Collapse In Madhya Pradesh Leaves 30-Foot-Deep Crater

A major portion of a road near a village in Madhya Pradesh collapsed on Monday afternoon, resulting in a 30-foot-deep crater.

The incident occurred between 12 noon and 1 pm, near the bridge from Mandideep to Intkhedi, when nearly 100 meters of the road caved in.

Fortunately, no vehicles were passing at the time and no injuries were reported.

A video showing the retaining wall crumbling went viral on social media, raising concerns about the condition of the bridge constructed over a decade ago, and the quality of state highway construction.

The road near Bilkhiriya village on the Bhopal Eastern Bypass, comes under the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), connecting key routes to Indore, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Mandla, and Sagar.

Officials said that a team was being formed to examine the reason for the road collapse.

"About 100 meters of the road has caved in, leaving a 30-foot-deep crater. We are forming a team to investigate this matter. Preliminary findings suggest the collapse of the Reinforced Earth (RE) wall. The cause of the accident will be clear after the investigation report is released," the MPRDC Divisional Manager Sonal Sinha told NDTV.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The bridge was built in 2013 and the tender for the construction company, M/s Transtroy Pvt Ltd, was canceled in 2020 for failing to meet contractual obligations. Since then, no agency has been officially responsible for maintaining the stretch till now.

Officials confirmed that the bridge was constructed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. After the cancellation of the contract by Transtroy Pvt Ltd, the MPRDC had assumed direct oversight, outsourcing minor repairs when necessary.

A preliminary technical report attributes the collapse to damage in the RE wall on one side of the Sukhi Sewania ROB (Railway Over Bridge) on State Highway-18. Engineers are examining whether improper drainage, structural weakness, or lack of inspection resulted in the damage of the wall.

A three-member investigation committee has been formed comprising  MPRDC Managing Director and Chief Engineer BS Meena, General Manager Manoj Gupta, and General Manager RS Chandel.

The committee has been tasked to determine the exact cause of the collapse and submit its findings to the government.

"If the investigation report reveals negligence or irregularities, strict action will be taken against those responsible," an MPRDC spokesperson said.

Barricades have been erected along the damaged stretch, and one side of the road has been completely closed to divert traffic on the route. Repair work and soil stabilization efforts began late Monday evening.

The cave-in has reignited debate over the quality of road construction in Madhya Pradesh.

Critics recalled Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rakesh Singh's controversial statement made three months ago: "No technology has yet been developed that can guarantee a road that will never have potholes. As long as roads exist, potholes will continue to exist."

Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar To Script Huge Test Record

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was on top of his game on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Friday. The 23-year-old batter remained unbeaten at the score of 173 in 253 balls. Jaiswal's knock was laced with 22 fours as he made the life tough for the guest bowlers. This was the seventh time Jaiswal scored a Test century and the fifth time he converted it into a 150-plus score. With this, the southpaw scripted a massive record, surpassing cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in an elite list.

Jaiswal is now the Indian player with most 150-plus scores in Test at the age of 23. He has broken the previous record of Sachin Tendulkar, who had smashed four such scores before turning 24. Overall, Don Bradman tops the list with the tally of 8 such scores. Jaiswal finds himself at the second spot.

Jaiswal's determination stood out for India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak who marvelled at the youngster's ability to remain unbeaten on 173 despite not being overtly aggressive in his approach.

Asked what stood out for him, Kotak said: "The way he approached his innings was brilliant. According to the wicket, the way he adapted, the shots he decided on that wicket, what he felt with the bounce and the pace of the wicket, was brilliant."

The former Saurashtra left-hander said that Jaiswal was a bit upset that he didn't get a big score in Ahmedabad despite getting a start (36) and wanted to get a big one.

"For me, the most important aspect happened to be how determined he was about playing a big innings. Obviously he is still playing," Kotak added.

The determination and belief about choosing the right shots allowed him to dominate the bowlers without even trying to throw the kitchen sink.

"It is that determination and belief that even after not being so aggressive, he is batting on 173. So that shows how well he batted." Kotak couldn't stop raving about Jaiswal's shot selections.

"I think the players like him or any players at this level will obviously see the conditions, see the wicket, assess the bounce, see the bowlers and then probably they will target the areas. So I think he did brilliantly today."

"Had No Hair, A Potbelly": Navjot Singh Sidhu Recalls Kapil's Early Days

Navjot Singh Sidhu recently returned to The Great Indian Kapil Show for its third season, joining Archana Puran Singh as a judge after six years. Sidhu opened up about Kapil Sharma's hardwork that has brought him such success today. He spoke about the comedian's life struggles and how far Kapil Sharma has come because of his talent.

What's Happening

  • Navjot Singh Sidhu spoke to Navbharat Times and stated how talent needs a platform to perform. In the same context, he cited Kapil Sharma as an example.
  • He said, "Talent without opportunity is meaningless. For example, Kapil Sharma used to work two days a week at Bhullar's theatre society for Rs 100. Then, when he first appeared on TV in 2006, he had no hair, a potbelly, and looked like a 45-year-old. But when he performed on a bigger platform, his talent shone. In the IPL, people also become stars overnight because they get a bigger platform."
  • He continued, "Following your passion isn't easy. Neither your parents nor society appreciates it. Parents tell you to become a doctor or an engineer. They stifle your aspirations and force you to study. Meanwhile, society is constantly trying to belittle you. So, you have to overcome this hurdle; the biggest disease in the world is worrying about what people will say."

When Navjot Singh Sidhu Met Former US President George Bush

Navjot Singh Sidhu further revealed how his one-liners are loved by his fans and thus have been termed as Sidhuism.

Recalling an anecdote of how former US President George Bush wanted to meet him after hearing about "Sidhuism", he continued, "When I was in the BJP, Sardar Manmohan Singh invited me to dinner. His PA called and told me that George Bush was coming and asked what Sidhuism was. He was told that whatever this man says becomes Sidhuism. So he said, 'I want to meet him.' When I went, he asked me to quote a line on positivity. I said, 'Keep your face towards the sun so you never have to see your shadow.' He laughed, but I didn't plan these things. I just speak from the heart, and people connect with it."

About Navjot Singh Sidhu

Back in 2023, Navjot Singh Sidhu took a sabbatical and a break from politics. The news came after his wife's cancer diagnosis. Earlier this year, he launched his YouTube channel and made his comeback on The Great Indian Kapil Show, streaming on Netflix India. He will also be seen in the latest season of India's Got Talent as a judge.

Four months into their marriage, a man in Karnataka's Belagavi allegedly killed his wife, hid her body under the bed in their home and ran away.

When the accused Akash Kambar's mother returned home from her native village, she found 20-year-old Sakshi Kambar's body. Police sources said Akash killed Sakshi three days ago and fled. His phone has been switched off since the woman's murder.

Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to trace Akash. While the motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, Sakhi's family alleged dowry harassment.

The case comes days after a pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and in-laws in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri over dowry.

Per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, cases registered under dowry-related crimes saw a 14 per cent increase in 2023, with more than 15,000 cases recorded across the country and over 6,100 deaths reported through the year. The NCRB's 'Crime in India 2023' report said 15,489 cases were registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act in 2023 -- up from 13,479 in 2022 and 13,568 in 2021.

Karnataka reported the third highest number of dowry cases, with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on the top of the list.

KBC 17: Big B Recites Famous Zanjeer Dialogue, Javed Akhtar Praises Him

Kaun Banega Crorepati has been going strong ever since it returned for its 17th season. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the quiz-based reality show continues to welcome contestants eager to win impressive prize money.

In the latest promo of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, actor Farhan Akhtar and his father, screenwriter Javed Akhtar, were the honorary guests who took the hot seat. This upcoming episode would be a special occasion as  Amitabh Bachchan would be celebrating his 83rd birthday on October 11.

The promo began with Amitabh Bachchan greeting Farhan and Javed Akhtar warmly before cutting a cake with them. But the show-stealer moment arrived when Big B recreated an iconic dialogue from his blockbuster 1973 film Zanjeer.

With his signature charm and commanding presence, Amitabh Bachchan recites, “Jab tak bethne ko naa kaha jaaye khade raho, yeh police thana hai, tumhare baap ka ghar nahi (Until you are told to sit, keep standing. This is a police station, not your father's house).”

Watching the Bollywood megastar's perfectly effortless dialogue delivery, Javed Akhtar appeared impressed. Farhan too applauded in admiration, while the audience erupted in loud cheers and applause.

Watch the full video here:

Zanjeer, directed by Prakash Mehra, was written by the legendary duo Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. Besides Amitabh Bachchan, this crime action drama also featured his wife, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan, and Bindu in crucial roles. Big B slipped into the shoes of Inspector Vijay, a tough and honest police officer, in this movie.

Amitabh Bachchan and Javed Akhtar's association dates back to the 1970s. Javed Akhtar and Salim Merchant co-wrote several films together that shaped Big B's popular “angry young man” persona at a time when romantic heroes were ruling the film industry. Some of these movies include Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, and Don

Kaun Bangea Crorepati 17 premiered on August 11. The show airs on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 9 pm. It is also available for streaming on the Sony LIV.
