23 बार की ग्रैंड स्लैम चैम्पियन और वर्ल्ड नंबर 9 अमेरिका की सेरेना विलियम्स ने एड़ी की चोट के चलते फ्रेंच ओपन से अपना नाम वापस ले लिया है। सेरेना इस टूर्नामेंट के दूसरे दौर में पहुंच गईं थीं, जहां उनका मुकाबला बुल्गारिया की स्वेतलाना पिरोंकोवा से होना था। लेकिन इससे पहले ही उन्होंने फ्रेंच ओपन से नाम वापस ले लिया। ऐसे में स्वेतलाना बिना दूसरा राउंड खेले टूर्नामेंट के तीसरे दौर में पहुंच गई हैं।

चोट के कारण चलने में भी परेशानी हो रही: सेरेना
सेरेना ने कहा, ‘‘मैं पूरी कोशिश करना चाहती थी, लेकिन मेरी चोट यूएस ओपन के बाद से पूरी तरह ठीक नहीं हुई है। मुझे नहीं लगता कि मैं ऐसी स्थिति में टूर्नामेंट खेल पाती।’’ सेरेना के मुताबिक चोट के कारण उन्हें चलने में भी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ा रहा है। ऐसे में उनके कोच ने भी मैच ना खेलने की सलाह दी है।

यूएस ओपन में चोटिल हुईं थी सेरेना
करीब दो हफ्ते पहले सेरेना यूएस ओपन के सेमीफाइनल में पहुंची थीं। जहां उन्हें विक्टोरिया अजारेंका ने मात दी थी। इसी मुकाबले में वे चोटिल हो गईं थी। इससे उभरने के लिए उन्हें समय नहीं मिल पाया।

चोट से उभरने में 4-6 हफ्ते लग सकते हैं
सेरेना ने बताया कि इस चोट से उभरने के लिए उन्हें 2 हफ्ते आराम करना होगा। पूरी तरह चोट से उभरने में उन्हें 4 से 6 हफ्ते लग सकते हैं।

ऑलटाइम रिकॉर्ड के लिए अभी और इंतजार करना होगा
सेरेना ने अब तक 23 ग्रैंडस्लैम जीते हैं। वो ऑस्ट्रेलिया की पूर्व खिलाड़ी मार्गरेट कोर्ट के ऑलटाइम रिकॉर्ड की बराबरी करने से बस एक कदम दूर हैं। मार्गेट ने सबसे ज्यादा 24 ग्रैंडस्लैम खिताब जीते थे।
